Update: About Subscribing Through Apple

Okay, so, Patreon has succumbed to the will of Apple and instituted a bunch of changes regarding subscribing to a page through the Apple version of the Patreon app. Frankly, the changes are all bad for both subscribers and creators. First thing first, they're going to slap a 30% fee onto your subscription for every damn payment. None of that extra money reaches me or even Patreon. It's pure profiteering on Apple's part. What do you get for that extra money? Well, you get a bigger monthly fee and the honor of padding Apple's bottom line. Nothing else. Like I said, it's all bad.

On top of that, Apple doesn't just pass the part of the payment that's supposed to come to me through. No. They keep it for 75 days before they pay it out to Patreon and me. 75 days. Time in which they can put that money in a bank and collect interest on it, none of which benefits you, me, or Patreon. It's just slimy as hell.

So, here's the takeaway. Don't subscribe through the Apple version of the app. Subscribe on the actual site through a web browser. It'll save you money and deprive Apple of wholly unearned profits gotten through sleazy procedures.

...or, you know - NOT useing Apple products is an option...

Open source platform that lets you essentially "subscribe" to someones PayPal, kind of like Louis rossmanns grayjay. Not sure if it would gain traction with the current market but if you could integrate someones patreon or subcribestar accounts with it and then have the option of how you want to subscribe. If anyone knows any open source devs looking for a project to start 😉
