Ice Skating Misadventure
Added 2024-06-18 17:56:11 +0000 UTCOkay, so I did plan on writing chapters yesterday. It seemed chance had other things in mind. I took a fall during my ice skating class last night. It wasn’t a graceful, gentle fall. I went over backwards and landed flat on my back. It really knocked the wind out me. And a grown man falling flat on his back…well, as you can imagine, my back didn’t feel great afterwards. I pretty much took a shower, ate something, and went to bed. The good news is that I didn’t crack my head on the ice. The expected news is that my entire back is still sore today, but I think it’s manageable enough that I will try to get out at least one chapter and see how it goes.
Adulting Pro Tip: if you’re thinking you’ll put off learning some highly physical skill until you have more time or money, keep in mind that you bounce back from minor injuries slower and slower as you age.

2024-06-19 03:02:31 +0000 UTCTruth. If i'd been transported to another world and had to ice skate away from monsters...well, they would have eaten me.

2024-06-19 02:55:27 +0000 UTCWell, to be fair, I picked a particularly challenging skill to learn, after I spent most of a year basically living in my desk chair. I knew that strains and soreness were going to be part of the process. Landing flat on my back that way was a new one though. I haven't had the wind knocked out of me like that in a long, loooonnnnngggg time. It's a particularly jarring experience because, for a few seconds, you just can't breathe. On the flip side, that's the first serious fall I've taken while ice skating in quite a while. So, it's six of one, half dozen of the other. The other option is to just let myself go entirely. I think I'd rather hurt sometimes.

2024-06-19 02:54:37 +0000 UTCYeah, that doesn't improve in your 40s

2024-06-19 02:49:20 +0000 UTCI read that as isekai skating adventure so it could have been worse .

2024-06-18 20:10:17 +0000 UTCYeah I've noticed that falling gracefully is no longer an option once you near 30

2024-06-18 19:55:22 +0000 UTCThis is the universe telling you to take it easy. You've been having a tough go of it with the comments sections and now you've gotten yourself physically injured. I recommend the Newfoundland cure for everything. 1) get a wool sock and an unopened bottle of scotch. 2) strip and drink scotch until there are two socks. 3) put on both socks and go to bed. 4) wake up, realize you should have included water in step 1, fall asleep again angry. Follow this prescription and be well.

2024-06-18 19:45:50 +0000 UTCI recently had a hilarious pratfall that left a large bruise on my windpipe and snapped my head back - I thought the last thing I'd ever hear would be the overused movie "crunching celery" noise. Stupid injuries happen. Take your time, get better, and don't read the comments on your fiction posts. We'll still be here when you're OK.

2024-06-18 19:21:36 +0000 UTCBruh. You get hurt more than my ex GF. I'd say its funny but im actually kinda scared you're gonna fall and be unable to get back up! Stop it! <3

2024-06-18 18:49:07 +0000 UTCThis is why I’ve taken up the art of fishing in a pond with no fish under a shade tree where the hardest part is cracking open a beverage. Hope you start feeling better soon!

2024-06-18 18:35:59 +0000 UTCTLDR; I got hurt hiking didn't recover from minor strain on injury and want Eric to take it carefully and recover fully, Best wishes on a speedy recovery. I was hiking in August 2018, tripped and caused micro tears along my interior patellar ligament. It didn't heal up until June 2020 because my work chair put a little pressure on my knees for "ergonomic" reasons and healing took 6 weeks of staying off it during covid. I've been trying to get back into shape by walking since September of last year, my knee is still not healthy enough to go on a 5 mile walk. Once you get to your 30s take care not to overstrain your self and stretch a lot, it is worse if you never got in great shape in your early 20s. Take your time to get better, your health is important and make sure not to strain yourself.

2024-06-18 18:21:33 +0000 UTCI feel that age comment - I smacked my leg into a table corner and that bruise took weeks to go away.

2024-06-18 18:12:05 +0000 UTC"keep in mind that you bounce back from minor injuries slower and slower as you age." Ain't that the truth. Pulled a muscle playing soccer with the kids and I could barely walk for a week after. I don't like my 30s...

2024-06-18 18:02:16 +0000 UTCI have, actually. If I’d fallen like that three months ago, they probably would have had to carry me off that ice.
