Resistance of Flame

Here's a shorty short video! I always wanted to measure the resistance of a flame, and now I'm disapointed!

Resistance of Flame

Comments

I think the plasma is not a linear resistance at all, and the conductivity will quickly rise with increasing voltage. The voltage the multimeter uses for its resistance measurement is very low. Try putting higher voltages across some probes with a current meter in series, and calculate the resistance with the good old R = U/I.

There is a technology in Automotive that is called "Ion Sense" which measures the conductivity of the flame in the cylinder during combustion using the spark plug gap. This can be used to measure the timing of combustion and other properties, It is not widely used because it is complicated and not highly robust.
