Bugearth is a super-Earth in some forgotten corner of the Milky Way. It orbits a yellow star called L'os and has a large moon called O'omn. It has a single large continent, Athropoda, and a few little-known islands scattered throughout The Great Ocean.
Athropoda is divided into three main parts by three mountain ranges. To the north are pine forests, valleys and the remains of petrified Colossus-Tree where the arachnids built their history beneath. The Grey Mountains of Silkarah divide the dark forests of the Great Desert (also called the Desolation of Scorpioron, the Imperial Desert or Wyrm's Penance depending on the region) which occupies almost a third of the continent, the central part to be more precise.
The Great Desert has two important rivers, the Imperial River and the Crabwalker Fall. The Imperial River runs from east to west, originating in the stump of an ancient Colossus-Tree (which would later become the Coleoptera Coliseum) and was the cradle of the scarab civilization. Crabwalker Fall, in turn, was created artificially; in theory, it is a long sea since it is entirely salt water. It was carved from the south of Athropoda northwards to the center by the metal claws of the armored walking Crabwalkers during the Great Bug War, turning much of the southern desert into a large mangrove swamp.
Also in the Great Desert, more specifically under the sand, in the bowels of the crust in a network of endless tunnels and caves carved by water and ancient creatures (also called the Underrealm), there are thousands of rivers, lakes and even underground seas. Some of these bodies of water gave rise to several oases, especially those that would become Lacrau, the homeland of the Scorpions, and the home of the last living tree colossus, which would become Arthropocity, the city of all Bugs,
The southwest is much more developed, just below the Wyrm's Tail mountain range, both in civilization and in the wealth of mega fauna and flora. A gigantic tropical forest of mega-trees (descendants of the Colossus-Tree) was the birthplace of several species of Bugs, from those that burrow and live underground like woodlouses and earthworms, those that live on the surface in giant clay cities like ants and termites, and those that live in the treetops and branches in great golden hive cities like bees, butterflies and moths.
In the Southeast, the situation is much more chaotic. The south of Lacrau is populated by countless villages of scorpions that live in a constant state of conflict depending on the Warlords they are loyal to. But they have a common enemy that lives south of the Naveen mountain range: the Sapiens Empire. These aliens, chaotic and violent invaders, are also known as Humans in parts of the galaxy where they are feared.
The Sapiens have taken over the forests of the extreme southeast, building a colony with the remains of the ship they came in, the S.S.U. (Sapiens Space Union) Aurora-5, which was shot down from Bugearth's orbit by a prototype orbital laser from Lacrau. They are constantly trying to expand their domain, commanding hordes to torment the Bugs, especially the Lacrau Armada, an army created by the Warlords especially to combat them.
Last but not least, the extreme south of Arthropoda is overpopulated by crabs, an invasive species originating from the ocean floor and from islands lost in the distance. By transforming part of the desert and rainforest into a large mangrove swamp, they live in stilt houses, from small fishing villages on the shores to cities of overlapping houses and buildings that rise from the substrate to the surface.
There are, like the Raiders of the Great Desert, pirates in ships who live to torment the peaceful citizens and unsuspecting nomads. But there are also those who call the ships home and live for generations in their vehicles that eventually grow in size as their passengers/residents add more parts to their shell until they become mobile villages and cities.
As mentioned before, the Underrealm is an important part of the geography of Bugearth, created by thousands of years of natural and artificial influence. Many of the Bugs' vehicles have tracks with excavator blades capable of drilling into the ground and using hidden tunnels to take a faster shortcut for travel. But this hidden world is far from peaceful; creatures of all kinds, such as large moles and slime-ticks, are always lurking. There is also the feared Cordyceps fungus that can turn a healthy Bug into a Plaguebringer, ferocious mindless monsters with the sole purpose of spreading spores and infecting other Bugs. Things that time has tried to erase, such as the Ancestral Golems, Centipedragos and the terrible and mysterious Pilbugosaurus still sleep into the eternal darkness.
There are also planes beyond the logic of the earthly plane, such as the Aether where the pantheon of gods lives, the Void under the command of the Great Weaver, the infernal plane where distorted and corrupt creatures live like the Succubus and Incubus, the afterlife managed by the Death Moth and her reapers who guide the departed to their final rest or eternal punishment and the Technoplane, a newer plane of existence where all AIs and digital data reside.
