Poll: Starwatch Outfit System Consolidation

Hey there everyone!

The time has come for what is likely Starwatch's most important poll!

Starting with the release of version 0.4.0, we've made efforts to streamline our development process among both games so we can be more efficient and deliver more content in each updates.

Silent Echo has been a successful experiment in that regard, a lot of choices made (and some the result of community suggestions) have allowed us to have a much better workflow, despite the added complexities such as animated sex scenes.

We already talked about our intent to slowly go through the entirety of the existing game to update it to our newer development capabilities. You've seen the result with the rework of Eris' store, and we're still going in that direction with complete storytelling and visual updates, with full reworks not excluded where deemed necessary.

This leaves one final pain point in Starwatch, which is the clothing system. Unlike Silent Echo, Starwatch uses individual pieces instead of complete outfits. The idea is to move towards a unified solution like Silent Echo, with outerwear and underwear slots consolidating 9 categories.

• Outerwear would regroup into one item the following slots: Headwear, Shirt, Jacket, Dress, Legwear, Shoes. Necklace and Earrings become outfit specific items (such as with formal dresses)

• Underwear would regroup into one item the following slots: Bra, Undies, Socks/Hosiery.

• Glasses remain as an independent slot

• Makeup slot gets added

• Tattoo slot gets added

Combined with the elimination of the androgynous body type, which is now complete, we estimate this change will give us greater flexibility in providing you with more outfits to enjoy, including more exotic ones.

I believe a good developer is in part one that can admit when they were wrong. I do feel this is one of these cases, as I greatly underestimated the complexity this would cause on the art side of things. Instead of doubling down on a system that is bound to become more and more complex over time, I feel this is an acceptable compromise that would let us provide you with more clothing options, and probably more important, regular ones unlike today.
