Game Announcement + Game Poll Double Feature

Hello everyone!

It's time for that big poll that I was talking about. Or that big announcement. Or both, actually?

Before I get into things... I say this a few times in the post, but just to assuage any immediate concerns, no, this will not take any development time/focus away from A Tiny Furry On A Huge Quest. This will just make sure that I have some game content to publish monthly while I work on that. I plan on having a playable version of that game ready by the end of the year still... hopefully a couple of playable versions even. But it will take some time to make it, and this will give me the time to make it while ensuring that there is no content drought.

Definitely probably a working title, by the way...

If you've been following me for a bit then you'll know that I've been kinda sorta planning on remaking A Tiny Furry In A Huge World in Game Maker. This year I will be committing to that.

There will be a Q&A coming up with more detailed information that will hopefully answer any questions that you have, but given that this is a poll as well I'm going to put that at the end so people who are just interested in the vote don't have to read a whole bunch of information to get to the thing that's relevant to them.

So, yeah! Remaking A Tiny Furry In A Huge World. Following the full release of v1.3 in either March or April, I will be putting out monthly updates on this instead. Yes, I am still making A Tiny Furry On A Huge Quest first and foremost. This remake is definitely a side project, but it's a side project that will allow me to carry on putting out monthly updates for something while I work on Huge Quest in the background. It will also mean that I can continue to do bonus content polls over the next few months that aren't just story related, since I know people tend to favor the polls being for interactive content rather than just pick a character from this random list and I'll write a story about 'em.

This will be a complete and total overhaul of the game. I've used the word remake here pretty consistently because it is a remake. It's going to be made from the ground up. I will be poring over every paragraph. I will be adding new content. There will be no shortcuts taken. I want this to be the definitive version of the game, not just some half-assed port job.

I will be working on this by adding one character/area at a time. I will be starting at the West Wing Corridor and working my way outward. Why the West Wing Corridor? Well, it's the starting point of the game for one, so it makes the most sense to start there. On top of that, the content on the West Wing Corridor is more recent than the stuff on the East Wing, so it'll take a bit less work to polish it up than it will say, Ms. Matthews area, which is almost six years old at this point and will need a much better looking over.

So what's the point of this poll? Well, we're starting in the West Wing Corridor, but where are we going from there? There's a few different options. There's Emily's content, Oscar's content, Claire stuff, the gym of course... which one of those do I develop first?

Well, not quite. I'm not doing the gym area first because it's very fresh and I'm just coming off of the back of making it all, so I'd rather not go through all of that again. That rules that out. I don't want to do Claire first either because as much as I like her and her character and her content I just don't think she's a fantastic starting point. This leaves us with Oscar and Emily.

I think that in terms of narrative Oscar and Emily are probably my favorite characters/routes in the game. They both have plots that lead to the player character naturally getting into a lot of macro/micro/vore related trouble, which is nice, and on top of that, I think their routes will work best for me when it comes to showing off exactly what I'd like the remake to look like. I can think of a ton of content that could be done to flesh their routes out and how certain things could be added or changed to make their experiences more 'immersive'. So these two are the best fit for a starting point, I think, with everything (and everyone) else branching off of that.

Note that the super peaceful Rachel content will not be ported alongside Emily: that will be coming at another time due to the fact that it's pretty much it's own separate thing.

So, naturally, that's where the poll comes in. The poll here will decide which character I start from. It's either gonna be Oscar or Emily. After that I will probably add Claire - or maybe just run a poll between Emily, Claire, and Mike, maybe - and go from there.

If you can't remember who Oscar and Emily are, here's a brief that'll hopefully jog your memory. Emily is the mean squirrel who kidnaps you in a jar and takes you as one of her 'pets'. Alongside Rachel - another captured micro - you must escape your horrid new environment! Meanwhile, Oscar is a goofy otter guy who decides to take you back home so he can protect you from the greater and larger world. Only thing is, he's kinda clumsy and a bit of a goofball...

Q&A COMMENCE!!!!!

Q: Why are you remaking it in Game Maker?
A:
Many reasons, but to summarize...

- Quest is rarely updated and will likely go defunct at some point.
- Quest doesn't export to anything other than Windows. A Game Maker port would enable me to release it on Android and potentially other platforms
- Quest is a bit clunky, both visually and on a back end level.
- Game Maker will enable me to do more interesting/immersive things when it comes to visuals and audio
- It'll be a good chance to go over every single area of the game and polish it up to perfection... or as close to perfection as I can currently achieve, anyway.

Q: What about the current version?
A:
It will remain available on itch.io and other places. It's not going anywhere. With the way that I am approaching updating this it will be the comprehensive and best way of playing the game until all of the content in it is ported over, which will take a while as I've already said.

Q: If I already bought A Tiny Furry In A Huge World Plus, will I need to buy A Tiny Furry In A Huge World Super Ultra Mega Plus?
A:
Nah. If you've bought a copy of the game on itch then you'll be able to download Super Mega Ultra Plus for free.

Q: You did a prototype of this about a year back. Will this be based on that because that was ages ago
A:
No, it'll be something made from the ground up. I don't even have the files for that thing anymore. I've been doing a lot of reading and practicing behind the scenes in Game Maker - in preperation for Tiny Furry Quest, mostly - and I've learned a lot of new techniques and such that'll make for a better game. That was made in mind with a port in mind: this is a remake, so it's a bit different.

Q: Why are you doing this instead of focusing on A Tiny Furry On A Huge Quest or whatever it is that you're calling that now?
A:
This will sound odd, but I'm doing this because I am focusing on A Tiny Furry On A Huge Quest. The thing about Huge Quest though is that it won't be ready for monthly releases for... a few months at least, which means that between v1.3 launching and Tiny Quest launching I would have nothing to upload on a monthly basis, which I wanted to avoid. I like monthly updates personally, they both keep me accountable and ensure that there's fresh content once every month for all of you fine people.

The original plan was to do monthly updates for Vorevival while also working on Huge Quest in the background, but I tried this last year and uh, yeah, it led to me feeling very overworked because putting two games together at the same time is very hard to maybe impossible. By porting A Tiny Furry In A Huge World I'm technically only making one and a half games since the content is already done for Huge World, which will lead to a smaller workload while still enabling me to get exciting monthly updates out.

Q: What new content will there be?
A:
Lots of things, including but not limited to: new endings, new backgrounds, new sounds, new visuals, new story paths, new gameplay features... the list goes on. By moving the game from Quest to Game Maker I will be able to better match the original vision that I had for some of these areas.

It will not be a lazy port by any means. I'm not just going to be copying and pasting everything over and calling it a day. It will be me working through the entire script, polishing it up, and bringing old content up to my current standards. This will be the ultimate version of A Tiny Furry In A Huge World and following this I'll be done with it - no looking back - so I want to make it something that I am truly proud of... rather than it just being some weird little game in some backwater engine.

Q: You mentioned Vorevival, what's going on with that?
A:
It's still being worked on, it's just a side side project. Another side side project that I have going on is Macroville 2. At some point - very possibly this year - my ADHD will activate and lock onto both of these things and they'll end up having a playable version made. Until then, though, they're still very much on the table but they aren't a priority, at least until this port is done and, most importantly, Huge Quest is in a better place.

Q&A OVER!!!!!

It's time for the poll to start! I will be letting this one run all the way through February and March to make sure that everyone has plenty of time to vote and such. On top of that, there's no real rush since I won't be starting work on this proper until around April anyways.

Over the new few weeks I'll be posting a dev log or two (or maybe even three!) with some more detailed information about this project and how it will look, sound, smell, etc.

I think that's it for the announcement! I should have covered all questions, but if you have any - or any concerns, for that matter - please sound off in the comments and I'll get around to them.

Happy voting! All going well, I'll have two pieces of content for everyone this coming week: a Tiny Furry Huge World update with some gym content and a funtastic fox story. See you then!
