Their names, for memory's sake, are Ruby Rose, Yang Xiao Long, Blake Belladonna, and Weiss Schnee. For Weiss, her name literally means White Snow in German.

I think it’s possible you may have slightly misheard, Blake did say “Weiss” normally, she did say “Schnee” wierdly, but there is no Wes here, is just Weiss like white, like Snow White, and the song in her trailer was “Mirror Mirror Part 1”

Except for Torchwick looking like Mosco, which I can't unsee now. 😂 He's based on Lampwick from Pinocchio and Alex from A Clockwork Orange. Also, Wiess has always been her name, Blake used her full name in the trailers.

Remember RWBY characters are all based on fairytales, classic fiction characters, and historical people. RWBY is not anime because it needs to be made by Japan to be anime as anime is simply the word for animation in Japanese. However RWBY is heavily anime inspired. Think of Weiss's name like the word "wise" with an emphasis on the i and s in the word. Hopefully that will help you remember the pronunciation. She was introduced as Weiss Schnee in the episode. Schnee is her surname and she is the heir to the Schnee Dust Company. Yang is my favorite character as well. ^^ I love the black silhouette characters. They don't matter lol

As you’ve been told everyone is an allusion to some fairytale or legend, but don’t think of them exactly as 1-to-1. Characters can have many different allusions layered together and sometimes even trade allusions back and forth. Also as you might have expected, “It’s also a gun” had become a bit of a catchphrase in the FNDM, as everything truly is a gun here.

Hunters and Huntresses are sort of what Park Rangers would be if the animals in those parks were a) everywhere and b) constantly trying to kill all humans. You are about to enter an almost infinite pool of backstory...good luck! Those on Remnant don't consider Dust to be magic, any more than we consider electricity or oil to be magic.

2026-01-14 18:42:07 +0000 UTCEp 1: Roman's design was based off of Alex from a Clockwork Orange, even if his fairytale allusion is actiually Lampwick/Candlewick from Pinocchio. Also, the narrator at the beginning was voiced by Jen Taylor who did Cortana in Halo. I'm not a Halo gal myself but I still think that's a neat pull. Ep 2: I’ve always loved that Jaune’s scabbard turns into his shield. Just a neat little touch to his weapon design. Weiss is pronounced like how you would say 'Rice'. Ep 3: The Shadow People are a fun little thing they were kind of forced to do back in the first season due to their low budget. Although, I will say it does lead to some fun little jokes, such as Jaune’s “Where am I going to find another nice, quirky girl to talk to?” only to reveal another designed character standing behind him. Also it makes a fun game of Spot the Main Character. I love the little tidbit that Yang used to read Ruby stories at bedtime. It’s cute. And also just the way Ruby socks Yang straight in the face. Ah, sibling love. It comes in all forms.

The blond guy "Vomit Boy" is named Jaune Arc (you got it) based on Joan of Arc. "Mafia Mosco" comment had me on the floor in laughter, because when Mosco did her reaction to Roman appearing, she commented "Who has a hair color that red in real life?" Later, she turned to the camera and gave a subtle smile. LOL

Weiss Schnee is based on Snow White, Ruby Rose is Little Red Riding Hood, Blake and Yang will be disclosed at a later date. There is a reason why all four have unique abilities that will be known further in the series.
