I'm pretty sure somone else already commented about how the writer of this episode confirmed that Penny is a lesbian. But I'm not sure if anyone else has said that the creators were originally gonna have her and Launchpad get together at the end of the episode but was able to convince them to change it. Also Launchpad is very much implied to be bisexual as whenever the creators of the show talk about his ex partners they also use gender neutral language, in one of the episodes Launchpad mentioned dating his own clone. And I believe one of the writers or artists did art and talked about his ex girlfriends boyfriends and nonbinary partners

He's not trying to "win Penumbra back", he just doesn't want them to be enemies, and then is perfectly happy being friends. Also, when she says she doesn't want to date an "Earth male", the writers confirmed that yes, she's lesbian. The Dellumbra ship is as good as Canon! ๐

You jumped the gun a bit on the Sapphening, but this IS the episode where they do something with that. "Earth-Launchpad" is a remnant of an early concept for the Moonlanders' names. Their general aesthetic was based on bad 50s sci-fi, so in keeping with the 50s theme, they were going to have generic mid-century white American names, but with "Moon-" appended to them, like Moon-Keith or Moon-Janet. The writers pretty quickly realized this just sounded dumb and switched to moon-themed names like Penumbra or Gibbous instead, but they had Penumbra refer to some Earth people and things with the prefix as a nod to that concept. Not only did they get a dog, they dressed it in slap bracelets just like they said they would back in season 2. It's a bit odd that Launchpad's this awkward around Penny considering his very long list of bizarre exes. However, when you think about it, Launchpad is absolutely the sort of person who would be like this for like a week after all his breakups and then be right back to perfectly amicable with them. "As stable as the US economy" is an absolutely BRUTAL insult and I will be incorporating that into my lexicon. The writers said Dewey and Webby feeding the ducks was a joke they'd been trying to find a way to use since the show started. "Barking up a pole with a gay pride flag at the top" is ALSO going straight (ahem) into my lexicon. It's Glomgold. He's dense enough to have measurable gravity and his ego is massive enough to do the same. Of course he thinks he's a god. The writers confirmed that "I do not wish to date an Earth... male" meant exactly what it sounded like. They didn't specify any particular Earth female she might be interested in, but, like, come on. There's only one reasonable candidate.
