I personally love Greek mythology because of how flawed the gods are. They aren't perfect beyond human comprehension like a lot of gods are in other religions. They are human in their mannerisms and thought, but simply blessed with magic humans aren't capable of and they use it for their own selfish wills. I love it.

So some information (Non spoilers) The war that was in the first two songs: The Trojan War. Aka Troy vs the Greek kingdoms / city states. Started when Paris, a prince of Troy, kidnapped Helen, Queen of Sparta and wife of Menelaus, The Greeks banded together to fight Troy and take back Helen (Hence the line "Secure Helen and Protect Her." The whole war is about her).. Odysseus, prince of Ithica at the time, was the greatest strategist for the Greeks. He devised the plan to hide inside a wooden horse to attack from inside when the Trojans were drunk and asleep after celebrating. Odysseus' son had also been born shortly before the war began. Now Troy lost this fight, *big time.* As in, there *is no* Troy left at the end of the Trojan War. Royal line slaughtered, city razed. Which isn't going to sit well with everone because several Gods were actually on Troys side (Aphrodite the Goddess of Beauty, who had helped Paris steal Helen. Her lover Ares the God of War, and Apollo God of Prophecy, music, medicine, and a hundred other things) So if Odysseus spared that boy, those gods would have almost ensured that he grew up to be a fierce warrior who could seek out revenge for Troy. That's why Zeus (the Eagle speaking to Ody in the first song) was telling him he has to choose: Kill Hectors son now and ensure the war ends here and now, or let him live and guarantee his wife and son will pay the cost in the future. Another important note: The Trojan War took *Ten Years* from Helen's abduction to Odysseus dropping the baby. These men havent seen their home and family in a decade. while there was a LOT of casualties in the Trojan War on both sides, Odysseus stood out as being the only general whose army faced zero losses. He went to war with an army of 600 men, and he left Troy with 600 men. Which is a gives you a good idea of just how clever and ingenious his strategies were. Now onto the people Zeus: King of the Gods, God of Thunder/Sky Justice/Law and Fatherhood. Most well known for being a wh*re, but he was actually a very good and just king, and with the exception of Hephaestus, a decent father. Athena: Goddess of Wisdom and War Strategies (Not to be confused with Ares, god of War in it's true brutality and raw violence). Her sacred animal is the Owl. Mentored Odysseus because she values cleverness and cunning, and Odysseus has that in spades. She is also one of the three Virgin Goddesses and an ace icon (Alongside Artemis goddess of the hunt, and Hestia goddess of the Hearth who were also virgin goddesses) Lotus Eaters: While there is no proof, a lot of people believe the lotus plants were weed. The Lotus eaters were just high as fuck all day every day. Epic depicts them as cute little creatures, but in the myth they were just stoners on an island.

I'll leave it at that for now x) Athena: Goddess of Wisdom, but also the goddess of War Strategy. Ares is the actual God of War, in the sense of pillage and plunder the city. kill the men and r*pe the women. Might be worth mentioning: The god of the seas is called Poseidon, and he also is the god of horses, so he had to give his blessing fot the "Trojan Horse" strategy. So it's not a good idea to anger him. This will be important context later ^^

I'm a mythology geek (mostly egyptian and greek) since I was a little girl and Epic is such a nice take on the travel of Odysseus... has things changed but as a fan of musicals and greek mythology is a must. I know they aren't seeing the comments until saga 2 but for when Morgan sees them, if they are still with doubts: Greek gods are a ton, from minor to big ones and sometimes domains (things that a god represents) overlap and you can have a god taking several dominions or two gods with the same. Ares is the god of war but Athena too, but Ares representes the power, the strenght and the might, Athena for her part represents strategy, intelligence in battle. That's why she tries to make a warrior of the mind or a warrior that thinks.

He's king of the Olympian gods (and the one who told Odysseus to kill the baby). The bird in Warrior Of The Mind is an owl - an animal sacred to Athena (goddess of wisdom, crafts, and the strategic elements of war), who's also one of Zeus’ daughters.

Just one thing: some of the subtitles in the videos you watched were automated and not very correct, and maybe they confused you a little. Also, none of the songs or animatics actually have copyright restrictions. The creator of the musical is actively encouraging people to post reactions. you could probably upload the unedited video to YouTube without consequences.

For example in Warrior of the Mind the subtitle was "God isn't bad versus a friend" when the real lyric is actually " Goddess and man, bestest of friends". So just something to note. 🙃

2025-06-27 14:52:00 +0000 UTCFun fact: originally Gigi didn't have the hand opening at the end which did leave it up to interpretation. She eventually added the hand opening for a harder ending. I personally prefer the hand opening version. I think it adds more emotion and is such a cold ending
