There's always a bigger fish, the problem is actually frying it.

I know you probably get nervous when you see long messages, but I promise there’s no spoilers below. I just love this show, and I really like discussing it with other people who enjoy it as well. The “Far to the west…” dialogue is something that Thorfinn has used several times before. In his time with Askeladd, he hung onto the tales of this faraway distant land, tales that Leif told him as a child, as a source of comfort amongst the chaos. His father used the same line with the dying slave in the first episode in season 1, hoping to send the suffering slave off with glimpses of a peaceful land that they may experience in the afterlife. Thorfinn himself used the line with a slave girl in season 1 in a rare moment of compassion when he was consumed by hate, giving the slave girl a hope that such a land actually exists, a land free of slaves and war, something for her to cling onto as well, so she doesn’t lose hope. As for why Thorfinn believes he has to do this… My mind goes to all of all those dead bodies, those ghouls still trying to drag him down into the pit, and his vow to atone for what he’s done. Saving every life he possibly can, no matter the circumstance or risk to himself, is a pretty good start. It may never fully relieve the weight of the ghouls weighing him down entirely, but it may lighten the load, if only a little, and allow him to live with himself and what he’s done. That’s just the way I interpret it anyway. Love the reactions man, keep up the good work
