personally disagree. culturally,its obvious why the brother was upset from day one. the arts arent respectible careers in our culture because they are so unreliable. if he was successful to an EXTREME amount (making millions) even then it still would be a tinge of "wish you had a real job". there is also the possibility (and this is totalling tapping into my simon side of giving extra backstory lol) that erik is bitter that simon was able to pursue his dreams where he had to be the responsible one. i been there and so have a lot of my other african/islander friends. just the way of the east: gotta put family, society (face), and career before the self. thats why erik used the words "dreams"and "playing around" cause culturally our people see the arts as a game to play for kids or as a hobby, not a a legitimate career
