Please watch 'What Dreams May Come' with Robin Williams

This is one of my favorite movies of all time, and possibly my favorite music score for an animated movie. (Jerry Goldsmith, whose work includes Gremlins, Innerspace, Poltergeist and Total Recall.) I also find it weirdly ballsy they actually call out a real-life governmental agency in a "kids" movie, rather than make one up. I feel like even today for a live-action movie, that would've stirred up controversy (unless it happened to be about a real-life historical event or biopic that had to do with the National Institute of Mental Health). However, it is WAY too short (which is touched on in your post-movie discussion). Until recently, I think conventional wisdom was that animated movies "had" to be less than 90 minutes. For simpler stories, that's not a big deal. However here, there is so much lore and so many plot elements that it ends up shortchanging all of them. As a kid, you just kind of accept everything, but as an adult, I wish they'd spent more time in the "flashback" of NIMH, set up the "magic" stone (perhaps linking it to the telekinesis they seemed to have developed), and further developed all the machinations within the rat community. ASIDE: It's a popular misconception that Beauty and the Beast is the first instance of CGI in an animated movie. (I even had a film teacher repeat this claim in class. She was wrong.) Actually, "The Great Mouse Detective" from 1986 had a sequence inside the clock of "Big Ben" that used CGI.

WastedPo

Now you have to watch Thumbelina. If you love Jeremy, then we will enjoy Jacquimo and our host of other quirky characters. As an adult, I realize how unhinged it is, nevertheless I still enjoy it just like I did when I was a kid.
