same with america and europe. i went to a trade school in 2000 when i was 15/16, so definitely not an australia only thing. its all about where you live and who your family is. if you come from an upper class family then trade isnt an option, there is only college so of course you wouldnt know about these programs but doesnt mean they dont exist. i just come from poor family with a tiger mom who was all about "you need to get a job so go learn a trade or something" badabing badaboom, i enrolled in west tech. dual high school and trade school (taking high school courses as well as trade courses) so we would all graduate with diplomas and degrees, ready to take the test for our licenses. so we would enter the world fully employable. there are better programs outside of my small town that offer apprenticeship and guaranteed employment upon completing the program.
