They wanted me to take an already existing emote and adapt it to suit a new character.
- 1- Base template: Since this is mostly a redraw, I fully intent to make it look as similar to the original as possible for the sake of consistency, which means reusing the original drawing for it.
- 2- Lineart: I simply draw a couple lines to define the characteristics of the emoji and make it look like the intended character.
- 3- Flat colors: Then comes filling in the lines with the colors used in her design.
- 4- Template check: Now I double check that the overlapping sections are erased and do not interfere with the original lines.
- 5- Recolor: Now I change the colors of the eyes/skin (taking advantage on the characters being the same species)
- 6- Final integration: Finally I resize everything using the same aspect ratio as the original emote
