These were all the steps taken to create the lastest commission for Jojo!
- 1- Early sketch: The very 1st sketch I made was very lacking in all aspects, but it worked well to help determine the night position for the characters since I wasn't given a real visual reference for their position.
- 2- Sketch 1: After the 1st revision, we agreed on having this position for the characters, it goes without saying this one is a lot better than the last one because I took more time to fully flesh it out!
- 3- Sketch 2: Small revision where I changed a lil bit of Jay's legs and fur after asking the patreon.
- 4- Bg Sketch: Then I moved on with the bg, I wanted to get an idea before starting to work on it and also to know where to position the characters in it!
- 5- Final Sketch: In the final sketch I positioned everyone properly, and also reverted the leg change on the last sketch (because it turned out to be a misunderstanding)
- 6- Lineart: Then did all the clean lines for all the characters, (the bandana and glasses from Adel were done in separate layers so they were easier to edit)
- 7- Flat colors: Then I moved on with all the flat colors, following the designs.
- 8- Gradients: Then Added gradients on all flats fo make them pop out more. and colored the lines
- 9- Background base: Then moving on to the background, I started drawing all the flat colored bases for all the elements, these colors will act as a back color for when I start with all the actual details!
- 10- Background details 1: Then on top of those bases I use watercolors to give them some texture and make them less bland, these will be useful for further details to add.
- 11- Background details 2: Here I add a ton of extra layers with gradients, several extrra watercolor strokes and overall all the things I need to make the background look convincing enough!
- 12- BG/Char. integration: I put the characters and bg together in order to figure out the right shadows
- 13- Shading: Then I move in with 2 more layers (one for shadows and one for hightlights) colored to fit the bg colors and set to specific overlays to blend better
- 14- Final effects: Finally I add some glow, and light reflection effects to really sell the idea that they're under the sun!
