Even though this drama is set in a fictional kingdom of 'Dayong' with the neighbouring 'Dongxia', the court system & costumes etc. indicate that it is heavily based on China's Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). The Imperial Astronomical Bureau is an actual agency that existed during that time and its job was to observe & record astronomical and weather changes, devise a calendar, advise the emperor on calamities etc. and select auspicious dates for important occasions. 'Geomancy' was a real field of study; a type of divination that interprets geographic features (similar to modern-day feng shui). There were notable geomancers working in the Imperial Astronomical Burearu linking the heavens and the earth in their work. As you will see in the show, geomancy is closely linked to construction/mechanics as it involves selection of suitable sites and arrangement of buildings. This includes construction of imperial tombs (some of which you can visit in China today as historical sites). Some supervisors of imperial tomb construction were recorded as people from the Imperial Astronomical Bureau. There are many more details in the show which is quite well-researched.
