[FREE] Just Passing Through Extended Edition - Millfiend

A fertile valley village overshadowed by a cursed windmill that no one dares speak of, save for a hidden cult that feeds it blood and fear.

The valley opens wide before you, a patchwork of fields stretching to the horizon, their crops swaying in the breeze. At its heart rests a large village—nearly a town—ringed with a stout wooden palisade. A broad river runs straight through the settlement, its waters glinting in the sunlight as bridges connect one bank to the other. Rising above it all, on a lonely hill, stands a vast windmill. Its timbers are old and weathered, its sails tattered but still turning with unnerving steadiness. The structure seems out of place—too tall, too enduring, as though it has watched over the valley for centuries. A single dark cloud lingers above the windmill, unmoving, stark against an otherwise clear, blue sky.

Millfiend should be a thriving breadbasket, its fields feeding the realm. Yet its prosperity is shadowed by the ancient windmill looming on the hill. Older than the village, weathered but unbroken, its sails creak in winds that sometimes no one else feels. It is not merely old—it is cursed.

For generations, those who entered the mill vanished or returned raving, bleeding from their eyes before wasting away. Years ago, villagers tried to burn it down. By dawn, the mill still stood, blackened but whole. Within weeks, the arsonists spontaneously combusted, bursting into flames in their homes and in the streets. Since then, the people ignore the windmill entirely, refusing to speak of it with outsiders.

Not all can resist its call. A secretive cult known as the Molgrith worships the mill as an eternal engine that grinds souls instead of wheat. They leave offerings of grain, livestock, and, when the signs demand it, blood. Some claim the sails only turn when fed. Others whisper that the lone cloud above it marks its hunger.

The villagers ignore, the Molgrith worship, and the windmill endures. Millfiend has learned one truth: to oppose the mill is to invite fire. The villagers ignore, the Molgrith worship, and the windmill endures. Whatever dwells within it, Millfiend has learned one thing: to oppose the mill is to invite fire.
