[All Patrons] Just Passing Through Extended Edition - Cedarvale (and the Drowned Voice)

A thriving coastal village of bright boats and bustling trade, masking whispered fears of creatures from the sea.

The village unfolds along the rugged coast, its harbor filled with bright, colorful boats bobbing against the tide. The air is thick with salt and the call of gulls, mingled with the shouts of fishmongers and sailors. At the center stands a bustling marketplace, crowded with merchants, travelers, and curious onlookers bartering over crates of fish, bolts of cloth, and trinkets from far-off places. Fresh timber frames rise all around, new buildings sprouting between older cottages, evidence of steady growth. Near the square, a newly built tavern overflows with noise and laughter, its windows glowing with warmth as patrons spill onto the street. The whole place hums with life, a sharp contrast to the rugged shoreline that guards it.

Cedarvale is growing at a remarkable pace, its harbor overflowing with fish, exotic catches, and strange treasures dredged from the Weeping Sea. What outsiders see as luck or divine favor is, in truth, the result of a bargain struck by Mayor Magnus Stormcaller and several influential villagers. Years ago, desperate to secure Cedarvale’s future, they pledged loyalty to a minor sea god named Thalmaris the Drowned Voice, who granted the village bountiful harvests of the sea and drew commerce from across the kingdom. In return, Thalmaris promised to one day claim a “tithe of flesh and blood,” a price Magnus believed distant and easily forgotten.

Now, Thalmaris comes to collect. Ships vanish beneath calm waters, fishermen are dragged screaming from their boats, and whole families disappear in the night. The sea god demands lives—chosen sacrifices from Cedarvale’s people—yet Magnus and his co-conspirators are desperate to keep their secret. They insist that the disappearances are the work of storms or wild sea creatures, all while quietly choosing victims to appease their benefactor. The village’s growth masks a terrible debt, and if the truth comes to light, Cedarvale may tear itself apart in rage and betrayal.

Lacking time to create content for your Tabletop RPG game?

Players love going "off mission", exploring side paths, or wandering around your sandbox. Creating everything you need for a village without making it feel too vague or undercooked is impossible. Those detours require detail.

Even if you have useful tables, you don't want to bog down your sessions by rolling on random tables and taking notes just to answer simple questions like "where can we sleep?" or "where is the blacksmith?'

Published Adventures feel too restrictive or not useful?

Published adventures offer interesting locations but sometimes feel restrictive or too closely tied to a campaign. Perhaps they're written just to serve as a catalyst for the main adventure, making it feel less like a breathing, living village and more like a video game prompt.

Does homebrew take too long?

Homebrewing villages takes hours for what often amounts to only a few minutes of gametime interaction. Even if you use AI (yuck), you have to spend time generating those questions. Plus, you have to know what questions to ask the generator.

And even then, those answers are probably relatively weak, lacking proper continuity!

The Solution: Drop-in Villages and Towns

Just Passing Through is the perfect toolbox for the Gamemaster who lacks adequate time to prepare.
