One hundred and fifty years ago, fifteen royal martyrs chose to bleed their necks to seal a slavering aberration in a tomb far beneath the earth. Fourteen of these saints succeeded. The fifteenth—a man named Halwen—was spared by a faulty blade and fled the tomb, declaring it a divine miracle.
He was wrong.
The creature, malformed and eternal, remains trapped—but only barely. Halwen’s bloodline carries the cost of his escape: a hereditary compulsion, the haunt of unfinished ritual passed from parent to child. His descendants have all died headless, one by one.
Now, a sleepwalking girl follows invisible footsteps to the site of her ancestor’s failure, drawn by something she does not understand. The tomb awaits. So does the blade.
The seal is weakening. The only way to finish the ritual is to decapitate the girl.
Or let the aberration free, and risk the deaths of thousands…
