Poll 429 - DCC Balkans adventure title and theme.
Added 2024-04-11 04:53:14 +0000 UTCSince I’m in “after hours” I’m tinkering with my DCC setting “Shadows Over Bulgaria” (I feel it’s a little less weird than using words from a language I don’t speak) and while doing research, the robot came up with some fun adventure suggestions set during the reign of the peasant king Ivailo in the late 13th century.
And yes, I’ll also have 5e versions! 🤘
The Lost Thracian City
Rumors speak of a Thracian city swallowed by the earth, its riches guarded by the spirits of its ancient kings. Players must navigate underground passages filled with traps, undead Thracian warriors, and mystical barriers to uncover legendary treasures and secrets lost to time.
The Crypts of the Bogomils
Hidden beneath a seemingly innocuous monastery lies the entrance to the crypts used by the Bogomils, a heretical sect. The crypts are rumored to house powerful relics, but they are protected by complex puzzles, traps, and the vengeful spirits of Bogomil martyrs who disdain those aligned with orthodox faiths.
The Fortress of the Vampyr King
In the remote Carpathian Mountains, a fortress once belonging to a fearsome Vampyr King is said to contain the ancient tome of necromancy. Adventurers must brave the haunted forests, ascend the treacherous mountain, and explore the cursed halls filled with undead creatures and dark magic to claim the tome.
The Caverns of the Vodyanoy
A series of mysterious disappearances near a lake leads to the discovery of an underwater entrance to the caverns of the Vodyanoy. Adventurers will need to find a way to breathe underwater, navigate the submerged tunnels, and confront the Vodyanoy and its water-dwelling minions to rescue the captured villagers and uncover hidden treasures.
The Secret Library of the Byzantine Sorcerers
Legends tell of a secret library hidden within the ruins of a Byzantine monastery, where sorcerers once compiled their knowledge of arcane arts. To access the library, players must solve Byzantine puzzles, bypass magical wards, and confront guardians animated by ancient magic.
The Labyrinth of the Minotaur Mercenary
A legendary Minotaur, once a mercenary leader in the Balkans, retired to a labyrinth constructed to guard his plundered wealth. The labyrinth, filled with traps, puzzles, and monstrous creatures, promises vast riches and magical artifacts to those who can navigate its deadly corridors and defeat the Minotaur still roaming its halls.

There’s some pretty cool third party content out there. But yeah, it has a way to go before getting to 5e’s level. Some quest lines for specific artifacts or villains would be useful too. And chance we might see some of those? I love the system, but it feels pretty limited ATM, coming from the 5E world.
