The way he narrated it made it sound like she was willing to stay with him as long as he accepted that she would never stop cheating, but he couldn't, so he left her. It sounded like she would have let him stay, but she also had no problem with him leaving. This would put Jim in the same situation a second time, in which he can stay with Alice as long as he accepts her cheating. He should probably accept that this pattern won't stop happening.
