Improved Dungeons & Lairs Card Format

Hey all,

I was thinking on the design of the D/L cards and thought that they would look way better using a more "modern" design versus the old "MTG" format. Here's the spike trap card again, except I've made the image push to the bleed and removed the borders, which were making it hard to add in information. It still uses some explanation dialog, but now I've got the Detect and Remove DCs singled out just below the sub-category.

Let me know what you think.

I liked the first card as MTG is very familiar and was delighted with the look of it. I do like this one much better though Thank you for not being satisfied with the accepted status quo

One more note on the design: MTG gave the cards borders for a practical reason related to high volume printing. The border allows them to easily print sheets of the cards, imprinting the images next to each other without need for bleed. When the image goes to the edge, it needs a bleed between each image so the shifting you get at cutting doesn't end up showing a bit of the next card.

Definitely like this design better. If you are trying to distance from WOTC products, having the first design (which looked like a copy of MTG cards) was not the best route to go.

I'm with you, friend. I WAS going to add a comment, but your comment perfectly nailed the objections I had to this design.

Ken Siwek

Much better!!

I like it

Way better

Rick Gormley

yeah I like the look of this design

Agree. Look is good but for ease of use would suggest bolding or in some way highlighting the damage and type of damage.

Frank Dellario

The open look is good, but the info block is kinda just jumbled together now. If I had to look at it during a game, I'd have to take extra time to pick out the damage. The previous layout had the information bullet pointed for us. Maybe a block for the description and a block for effect?

Yuk Lau

I think its an improvement, but I feel like it still needs a border since it is meant to be a card.

Michael

I see. I didn't remember seeing the term, but just checked Feather Fall and it's there. Cool! :)

Alvaro Cavalcanti

Yeah, although falling damage is sort of a weird gray area. All falling damage is bludgeoning but certain features can resist specifically falling damage.

DM Dave

That's an improvement, indeed. And just to clarify, where you put falling damage, did you mean bludgeoning?

Alvaro Cavalcanti

YES.

Richard Cunningham

Yeah this is better

Holy Pickle

I like this one better. It's a much brighter and open design, with the borders not clamping down on the image and the text :-)

Steve Skirata

I do like this format.

Charles Martin

This is definitely better

I like this better.
