DMDave/Henceforth Games News - January 2023

Happy new year, folks!

I hope you had a safe and wonderful evening last night. The wife and I got a date night out to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary. We watched Glass Onion and Dirty Dancing.

Here's a look at what to expect in January and in 2023

Two Years of New Fifth Edition Content Published and Ready

In anticipation of the forthcoming introduction of the new commercial license from Wizards of the Coast and the revocation of the 1.0a open gaming license, I spent the last week of 2022 publishing super basic versions of Dungeons & Lairs posts to cover us for the next two years (or 54 weeks) of content.

Since those posts are so basic, our writing team will need to take time to edit them to get them up to snuff with our typical content. Fortunately, it shouldn't disrupt us from our normal Friday posting schedule.

TL;DR: no matter what changes are coming with Wizards' licensing, barring any legal disruption from Hasbro's army of attorneys, you'll still get Fifth Edition content that will last you until the end of 2024.

Phoenix Engine RPG System Coming Soon

In addition to pre-publishing two years' worth of Dungeons & Lairs content, I spent the holidays writing my own ruleset, which will debut in two Kickstarters this year:

I should have a working copy of the rules once our OGL/SRD is finalized, likely this week. I plan to share it here and start running playtests for it. Once we've tweaked it a bit, I'll be shipping free copies of the basic rules to all of our Electrum+ patrons. ETA on that is currently unknown since we're still working on GMSG.

As always, feel free to hit me up in Discord if you have questions.

Peace and love, folks and have a happy new year!

Starting back up my support for you because I want to support your endeavor.

Dilldwarf

Not lately LOL

DM Dave

WOW! Do you sleep?

Grakius

I'll still be DMDave. We'll have some other cool stuff coming, though. It's actually pretty exciting and, frankly, long overdue.

DM Dave

That sucks. Sorry man. Are you still going to change your moniker or leave it the same?

Kurt Pflegl

Yeah. It's been a stressful month or two haha It's tough to say "just trust me", but we have sources to protect. However, we have had legal counsel involved with this since almost the beginning. Once they go public soon, we'll have a press release everyone can read explaining what it all means and what our next steps are as a creator community.

DM Dave

Oh no!

Kurt Pflegl

Unfortunately, that is no longer correct. Once they go public, I'll be able to share more on why.

DM Dave

I think this all sounds great. Just one correction. There's no such thing as revocation of the OGL 1.0. It's always going to be operating in regard to 5E. Anyone will be to use it to create content for 5e until the end of time, as long as they follow its SRD. The new OGL 1.1 will only cover content in regard to the new ONE D&D rules. So the language of revoking OGL 1.0 muddies the waters on this subject.

Kurt Pflegl

Well, two years is a long time haha But sure. If it isn’t what we think it is, then we will keep going. Plus, PE will be 5e compatible, so there’s that 😅

DM Dave

Dave.... I'm sure you've invested the research into this, BUT if the new OGL isn't as restrictive as everything thinks, will you keep producing DnD stuff or has the decision already been made to support the new systems beyond 2024? Love all your content, which I mainly use to find out my campaign. Would hate to see that avenue closed, but looking forward to the horror game.

Kenny Myers

Can't wait to check it out!

0_0 A new dawn, ideed :-)

Steve Skirata

100% I plan to release it on Google Docs, too, so people can do whatever they want with it :D

DM Dave

Please keep a pdf option for the Endless Journeys system in mind. My space at home is limited and my wife asked me, to stop buying physical DnD books, in early November. Well, not that I already had pretty much every book, that I was interested, in playing with her ;-)
