Omeria's most dangerous masterminds, villains, and tyrants gather together once a year for the Annual Gathering of the Souls contest held at the Apex of Echoes in the Dark Dimension. The rules for the contest are simple: the entrant who gathers the highest quantity of quality humanoid souls before the next gathering is the winner.
Of course, there's no one way to gather humanoid souls. But the method preferred by many of the entrants is through the creation of soul-trapping dungeons. A soul-trapping dungeon is a dungeon designed solely for the purpose of attracting adventurers and destroying them. The further an adventurer travels into the dungeon, the more its soul "bakes," reaching a higher-quality level of soul. Adventurers who enter such dungeons for the "greater good," for example, are valued much higher than petty thieves and tomb-robbers.

The Verdant Vaults comprise areas 61 through 74. This section of the Nightmare Tunnels is designed for four characters with an average party level (APL) of 8. Characters who successfully navigate all or most of the vaults should earn enough experience to reach 9th level.
