Shrine of the Emperor of Bones 2021 Rerelease | New 1st-Level Adventure for Fifth Edition

DOWNLOAD THE ADVENTURE BELOW

Shrine of the Emperor of Bones is a Fifth Edition adventure for four to five characters of 1st to 2nd-level and is optimized for a party of five characters with an average party level (APL) of 1. This adventure is setting agnostic, meaning that you can easily place the adventure into any campaign setting or environment of your choice. Ideally, the shrine is hidden in a tropical environment such as a jungle or even under a town or city where water would easily flood its chambers.

Background

Once a noble's son with a promising future in arcane magic, the self-proclaimed emperor of bones destroyed himself and his followers during a necromantic ritual gone awry. Resurrected and driven by a compulsion to complete the ritual, the emperor continues his dark practices at the shrine that bears his name.

Shrine of the Emperor of Bones 2021 Rerelease | New 1st-Level Adventure for Fifth Edition

Comments

Agreed on player maps. Why are player maps in general not included in the adventures.

Is there a player map for this new updated version like there was for the older one from like 2 weeks ago? EDIT: I found the old one in my browser history but I think it would still be nice to offer the player map for those who want it

Yeah, I noticed in the Zombie Owlbear section you mention it was a tough encounter and suggestion for scaling it down if necessary. I definitely appreciate that addition to the adventure.

Brad Thomson

Nice zombie owlbear is the best

DM Dave

Weird. I don't remmeeeeember adjusting that, but if I did, I likely took your suggestions and edited accordingly.

DM Dave

Nice, I appreciate that. Just checked it out. I see that the Areas 3 & 4 transposition got fixed in the process, thanks. Loving the updated map, and it will be a definite upgrade for the next group that I run it for. Will probably take the 5th level version for a spin, next time.

I loved it the first time. I set it as the basement for a Bullywug temple that got desecrated that the PC's had to resolve. That Zombie Owlbear almost roasted a couple of PC's. It was their first real potential deadly encounter. Thanks Dave!

Yep. Patch went through today

DM Dave

Side question: the PDF's read "optimized for a party of four characters with an average party level (APL) of 1." for the 1st and 5th level versions, but you state above "optimized for a party of five characters with an average party level (APL) of 1." I believe the original was optimized to 5 characters so I was not sure if this is a change with the updated version.

Brad Thomson

Will previous owners of the Roll20 version get updated content for it?

Some reformating plus a couple bits added. I think I also added text blocks (I think).

DM Dave

Is this a reformating of the original adventure or has some of the gameplay been updated? I have the original printed out already so I wanted to know if there is more to this update that I should reprint.
