Poll - Emergency Dungeon Alert!
Added 2021-04-23 18:31:08 +0000 UTCFollowing up my last post with all of you (and considering I'm trying to go a whole day without passing out midway through since I keep staying up 'til 4am every night), I thought I might busy myself by working on a dungeon for my Saturday D&D group. The party is currently at 2nd-level.
Some of my favorite adventures that Fifth has put out are the ones in The Yawning Portal. So I figured—why not make one? They've all got simple setups, interesting floor plans, and they're relatively easy to pen. I'll get a super rough version of this out before the end of the month. That way you don't have to wait through our normal process of proofing—so it's going to be DMDave Classic, typos and all! Haha!
What dungeon theme should I go with for a fifty-room beast of a dungeon? I'll probably pick the top three themes and carve up the dungeon into sectors. (I left out celestials because they're a pain to write.)
Looking forward to your response.
(So I can start writing today, I set it to end in just 2.5 hours.)

Plants have taken over the part nearest the decayed entrances as ‘nature’ encroaches. Oozes inhabit the most remote part. A band of fey are stuck between the two not wanting to upset nature’s ‘harmonious’ ways.

2021-04-23 21:15:55 +0000 UTCCheck out my adventure vines! One big issue is the lack of SRD plants. I can’t use myconids or blights, so it doesn’t leave me with much, sadly

2021-04-23 21:05:12 +0000 UTCIn a symbiotic relationship!
2021-04-23 19:34:58 +0000 UTCA plant dungeon like Vault 22 from Fallout could have a whole lot of unique problems to solve outside of the norm. Whereas a higher level party would include more monsters or traps, biology could provide a different twist on puzzle solving for a level 2 party. Edit: just saw that you've got a plant adventure already, but I stand by post! They could use more love.
2021-04-23 19:11:56 +0000 UTCI've been working on an idea that might work for you, then I won't have to do it :) Factions of fey, celestials, fiends, and elementals all lose their connection to their home planes and are stuck battling for control over the dungeon while trying to reestablish a way home.

2021-04-23 19:04:42 +0000 UTCI feel like aberrations could be interesting and have not gotten much love recently. But that could be my feelings and not reality.

2021-04-23 19:02:53 +0000 UTCWhat I was referring to is that fey, undead, and beasts are commonly used themes in adventures, and plants are used as filler when they fit. You don't see many plant-based adventures at all.

2021-04-23 18:55:28 +0000 UTCI think plants could be something really interesting and different than any of the other yawning portal adventures edit: just saw that DM Dave said hes made one with plants before. I will have to try and find it. I still think it's the most interesting of them.

2021-04-23 18:38:00 +0000 UTCJust saying that everyone has done an adventure based on the fey. And if you enjoy that type of thing, that's fine. I just don't see dungeons based on plants at all. I've even made one when I played D&D 3e and my players had a blast.
