Worldbuilding Q&A - What do you want to know about worldbuilding

Hey all,

Right now, the poll on a second class has worldbuilding at 50%+, a clear winner. Looks like y'all want to know about worldbuilding! While I can go on at length about different parts of the subject, I'm interested in knowing your actual questions.

Drop a question below that pertains to worldbuilding and I'll try to get an answer for you as soon as possible.

Looking forward to learning what you want to know!

That's my secret... I don't! :P

I've been working on my world for 50 years. How do YOU keep it all organized?

Making adventures that fit the world, and making worlds that fit the adventurers

What kind of computer/specs is needed to be a content creator?

Creating governments and power structures... every time I wade into this part of world building, I feel like I am totally just pulling things out of, well, you know where. I didn't study political science!! hahaha

What should people generally focus a bit more on, that might not seems important on a macro scale, but is something that really peaks the players’ interests while actually playing?

I'd like to know more about tying locations together. Right now my campaigns are very linear. Go to this place to do a thing then on to the next place, but their is no incentive to double back to where they have already been.

What are some pitfalls of world building you’ve come to learn about/notice with your experience? What world building tools (like websites) that you recommend? How do you recommend someone begin world building?

How far do you allow players to create the narrative in a campaign world setting. Do you just set major battles and steer them towards those encounters? Or do you allow them to stray VERY far off the path and rework the campaign to adapt to those choices? If you are focused on completing the overall story arc for the campaign. When do you reel the players back to the path?

I build a lot of sandbox settings constantly (hexcrawl-style and traditional location-based settings). With that in mind, you have any tips for us worldbuilders in TRIMMING DOWN the content we put within the settings?

How to make the world feel alive and interesting during game sessions... I am always looking for advice on that subject.

Events and days and how to make characters feel important but not too important

How do you determine how much the players know of the "world" and when? Or is that maybe part of tier planning?

Matt
