The process for turning humanoids into vampires does not always result in a vampire spawn. Sometimes, the subject is too weak-willed to return from the grave as a full vampire. These creatures return as vampire wretches, lesser vampires, whose thirst for blood overwhelm their senses. Often, vampire wretches are destroyed immediately by the vampires who created them. There are times, however, where the wretch's creator takes pity on the creature and allows it to live as a pet.

Undead Nature. The vampire wretch does not require air.
