A flitterbug is an aberration found primarily in the swamps and mires of Omeria, particularly in and around the Obsidian Plain. The flitterbug has a flat, disc-shaped shell with a mess of segmented legs below it. The center of its shell has eight telescoping eye-stalks that allow it to see all around it. Small, razor-sharp wings hide within the center of its shell and emerge after it launches itself into the air. Once launched, the flitterbug spins as it flies, resembling a flying buzz saw. It uses its wings to attack creatures, leaving them with vicious, supernatural wounds as it goes.

Often misclassified as an "insect", flitterbugs are actually horrific aberrations created through rogue conjuration magic. The Striped Conjurers of Karmithyash trained the flitterbugs as guardian creatures, using them as a "living landmines" in the Black Swamps of Barkor. Over 2,000 Alliance troops perished in the swamps, many of whom were relieved of their heads by the flitterbugs. The Barkorin Hags then reanimated the heads to haunt the swamps, further plaguing the Alliance members.
