End of May status update
Added 2017-05-26 13:38:41 +0000 UTCHello my dear supporters! I hope you are well.
Just a short update with two main things I want to let you know of:
First up: New hardware!
I recently got myself a Google Pixel and a Daydream View. I like the controller but I do get a bit sick using the headset. I'm not sure what it is, but something with it seems to be slightly off. I can use it for a while and the sick feeling doesn't get too bad, but sooner I later I feel like I've had enough and I take longer to adjust to the real world than with other headsets. I also just ordered a HTC Vive and the latest GearVR controller. I am also a backer of the NOLO, a system to allow vive-like positional tracking for mobile headsets, which also should start shipping next week. And I own the Touch controllers for the Oculus Rift for a few weeks now. As you can see, I'll be able to support and test all sorts of input and devices soon.
Second news topic: I took the next week off from all client work.
Yes, part of that will go into relaxing a bit, but most of the free time should go into MMM. Get ready to get news about the next alpha by end of the next week. It will definitely include the first version of the Session Creator. At long last you'll be able to setup your own sessions with your own audio files. There will be fixes and updates to what you've seen already, there's a bunch of things I coded for a client's VR project in the last couple of weeks that I'll reuse for MMM. So all that client work will not only pay off in the monetary sense. :)
Other news: New name & new planned features.
The Mind Melting Machine will jhave a new name when it hits the stores. MMM will become MMM. Well, the Mind Melting Machine will become the Mind Mending Machine. So the change is rather small, but it loses its aggressive character and instead emphasizes on the beneficial characteristics its usage can have. I also checked out how to emulate the visuals of a classic mind machine, you know, those light & sound headsets you can buy. I was surprised how effective in calming the mind it was when I tried a prototyped version of it on myself. This will definitely make it into MMM. I also realized that some audio hypnosis files are made in a way that makes the user like the hypnotist's voice is circling around the listener. Other files feature two or more locations where voices are talking to you, intermingling several audio tracks. I can easily image that MMM will sport both of these things, one or more tracks moving around the listener, making it so easy for the user to feel swept away by the experience, letting go of all conscious thought.
Thank you very much for your ongoing support, your feedback helped me a lot so far and you kept me motivated for this project. Your support is what is bringing this to life and I'm deeply grateful for that. Thank you!
