Pi Day 2022: Chromatic Challenge

This is my 12th annual Pi Day video.

Our Pi Day celebrations are perhaps the most consistent thing in my life, and part of me is always surprised how I manage to follow through year after year. A few years into this, when people started commenting on how they’re looking forward to Pi Day even if I haven’t posted recently, or consider the annual Pi Day video to be something of an institution, a reliable beacon in the turning of the spheres, I found it very humbling. I don’t know that I deserve to be entrusted with such faith. I certainly don’t always trust myself. Yet here I am, for the twelfth year in a row, so perhaps there’s something to it.

This has been a pretty intense year for me so far, but what year in the past 12 or 20 hasn't been? I am so ready for music and peace and being a mountain hermit composer.

If you missed my pre-pi post from a few days ago, it covered that I'm returning to composition full time, and also details about this year's Pi Day 2022 shiny things you can buy as well as patron-only discounts that'll last the next few days. I was hesitant to do 5 entire products at once when I've only sold a few things in years past, but y'all definitely showed up :D

I have a followup video or two for chromatic pi stuff that I'm still working on, so I'll keep this short and see you again soon. For now I need to take twenty naps.

Thank you! I was hesitant since it's not exactly a professional recording and it's not perfect, so that's why I'm calling it a "Composer's recording" paired with the sheetmusic. But I'm glad it was worth doing.

I'm so glad you made an mp3 download, this now has pride of place in my music collection.

David Peaker

It absolutely would! And you're not alone in the suggestion, so maybe it would make a good topic for a future Pi Day :D

Amazing. But surely using the dozenal representation of π (3;1848...) would allow for more ergonomic mapping to the chromatic scale?
