All You Need To Do Is Win A Race Melody (Ea)(TG-Empress)

A commission for 12Animefan21

Christian was a big fan of the new game Umamusume, a game where you train a variety of different pony girls, then enter them into races. Christian’s main pony was one named Hope. Hope was a short pony girl with short blue hair.

Despite that she had really good stats and Christian had been training her a lot, yet for some reason she still can’t seem to win any races. She always seems to come up short, ending in either second or third place.

No matter what he did, he couldn’t get her to win and after a hundred losses, Christian sat back and sighed. “Dammit, Hope! Why can’t you win a race?” Christian said as he looked up at the ceiling, disappointed.

He then sat up and looked at her on the screen. “I’ve done everything I can for you. You have the best training among all the ponies; what more will it take to turn you into a race-winning pony?” He said with a frown on his face.

He didn’t expect to get an answer, but suddenly Hope, who was on his screen turned and faced him, and she looked pissed off. “If you think it’s so easy, how about you try it yourself?” Christian tilted his head, confused.

“I’ve never heard that dialogue before… wait did she just respond to me?” Christian said as he leaned closer to the computer screen. Once he was closer to it, Hope took her hands and moved them towards the screen.

Somehow they came popping out of the computer screen. “Wha-what the heck?” Christian said freaked out. Before he could fully process it, Hope used her hands to grab Christian, and she used them to pull him through the computer screen.

After that everything went dark for Christian for who knows how long. Eventually she felt someone poking her face. “Hey, wake up already,” said a nearby voice, which Christian recognized as Hope’s. Christian opened her eyes and found herself standing face-to-face with Hope.

Christian’s jaw dropped and she couldn’t believe she was getting to stand next to a real pony girl. Hope smiled and waved her hand. “Welcome to my world, Melody.” Melody followed her hand, looking at all the things around them.

“I can’t believe this… am-am I really in the game?” Melody asked as she looked at Hope. “You sure are.” Hope said as she placed her hand on her hip and smiled. Melody lifted both of her hands up to her face and seemed super excited.

“This is great! Now I can really be a trainer, and since it’s in person, I’m sure I can get you to be the best pony in no time.” Hope let out a laugh. “Uh… well… I hate to break this to you, but you’re not here to be a trainer.”

Melody looked at her confused. “What do you mean? What else would I be? It’s not like I’m a pony girl like you.” Melody said as she slowly looked down at herself. Melody’s whole demeanor changed as she saw what she was wearing and what was underneath it.

“WHAT THE!” Melody yelled as she moved around and looked at herself. “I’M A GIRL!!!” she yelled as she stared down at her breasts. “You sure are, but more than that, you’re just like me, Melody. You’re a pony girl.” Hope said, almost taking joy from Melody’s panicked state.

Melody turned towards her. “Bu-but… I don’t want to be a girl…” she said nervously as she tried to zip up the crop top hoodie she had on, all in an attempt to cover up her chest, which was only covered by a bikini top.

Hope puffed her cheeks and seemed a little annoyed. “Why? I mean, let’s be honest, you’re so damn cute, maybe even the cutest girl here. It would be a shame to go back to being that nerdy-looking guy you were before.”

Melody looked embarrassed. “You… you could see me?” Hope nodded. “Sure could. Anyway, if you do want to return to that life, you’re free to do so. There’s just one little thing you need to do first.” Hope said as she looked at Melody with a big smile on her face.

Melody looked back at her, then looked back at the ground. “I… I have to win a race… don’t I?” She said with next to no confidence. “That’s right. All you have to do is win one race this school year, and you’ll get the option to return to your world.”

Hope said as she grabbed Melody’s hand and pulled her to the track. “Bu-but… I… I don't think I can… What happens if I don’t do it?” Melody asked as they entered a practice track. “Well, then I guess Melody gets to stick around… forever.”

Hope said as she set up a practice race. Melody gulped and watched the timer go down. “Hey, you never know. You could beat me right now and go right back home, forget this ever happened and continue playing like normal… Or I could leave you in my dust.”

Hope said as the timer hit zero. As soon as it did, the gates lowered and Hope took off like a missile. She was already down the track before Melody had a second to respond. “Wa-wait a minute!” Melody yelled as she started running.

Melody was quite surprised at how fast she was now; she was easily faster than her old self. She was also taken by how amazing it was to be running like this. The wind blowing through her hair and tail felt so free.

Then there was the sense of competition; for some reason Melody felt herself driven to run as fast as she could and try to win. Melody smiled and ended up trying super hard to win the race, but in the end, Hope’s time was a third of Melody’s.

As Melody held the side of the track catching her breath, Hope came over and patted her on the back. “Looks like I finally won one, and it looks like Melody has a lot of training to do. Don’t worry, though; I’ve got your back.”

Melody looked up and let out an awkward laugh. After that Melody started training hard every day, doing everything she could to increase her stamina and get faster. It wasn’t nearly as easy as it seemed when she was in her world looking in.

There were many days filled with sweat and tears, but luckily, like she promised, Hope was by her side the whole time, teaching her proper running form, showing her how to properly diet, and even helping Melody make friends with the rest of the pony girls.

Eventually it got close to the end of the year, and Melody had yet to win a single race, but she was getting close. Like Hope had been when Melody first entered this world, she was placing second to third almost every time.

So she was getting confident that she could take first, but this was her last chance before the deadline. The final race of the year. The biggest race of them all, and it was against people she had come to know as good friends, including Hope, who was favored to win.

All the pony girls prepared themselves and watched as the countdown started. Melody took a deep breath and smiled. “You got this, Melody; show them what you’re made of.” She said right as the gate opened.

She, like every other girl, took off running. Almost immediately half the pony girls were behind her. Melody smiled and started charging forward with all her might, passing the rest one by one until she found herself right behind Hope.

Melody managed to catch up to her and the two were neck and neck for a moment, but Hope just smiled and took off. Melody was shocked at how much faster she got, but she knew she couldn’t sell herself short.

Melody clenched her fists and dug deep within herself to muster all the strength she had. After that, each step she took felt like it was two times stronger than the last, and before she knew it, Melody was flying by Hope.

Hope had a shocked look on her face as Melody came up next to her again, but as Melody passed, Hope looked happy. “YOU GO GIRL!” She yelled as Melody took the lead and eventually put so much distance between them that Hope couldn’t possibly catch up.

As Melody ran through the finish line, she felt amazing. People were cheering for her, and there was confetti everywhere. Melody stopped and nearly fell on the ground from exhaustion, but she managed to hold herself up and bask in her victory.

“I… I did it!” Melody said as she lifted her arms up. As she did, a system prompt appeared in her vision asking her if she wanted to go back home. “I… I can go back…” Melody said, slightly disappointed.

“I guess that was what all my hard work was for.” Melody said as she looked up at Hope, who just crossed the finish line. Seeing Hope, her best friend filled her with happiness, and Melody knew right away leaving would mean leaving her and all of this behind, which she couldn’t do.

So she clicked no on the prompt and smiled. “I… I don’t need to go back.” She said to herself. She then turned towards Hope, who had a confused look on her face. Melody just smiled and started approaching her.

Hope was wondering why Melody was still there, but it clicked in her head that Melody chose to stay here, which nearly had her in tears, but she held them back and ran over to Melody and picked her up. “Congrats champ, you did it, you won a race.”

Melody looked down at her. “I did, but I’m just realizing now I’ve been winning this whole time.” Hope put Melody down and chuckled. “I know what you mean… but in terms of races, next time I’ll totally beat you.” Melody chuckled as well. “I look forward to it.”

Comments

You know, my comment will be a bit off-topic, but still... The thing is, I perceived this story in a rather unusual way... While I was reading, I kept thinking that Melody essentially became one of the game's characters, which means, in theory, another player could get her and play as her... And if you perceive this story that way, I think many will agree with me, but personally, I'm ready to go to great lengths to become such a character from the game... And it doesn't even matter what kind of game it is, because if it's not complete crap, then I'll almost certainly be remembered by thousands of people for many years!
