2025-09-08 16:55:26 +0000 UTCIt's been soooo long since I watched Naruto. This was my absolute favorite for so long. I think this anime was also the start of my love of youkai ('monsters' is a generic translation, but it encompasses all manner of otherworldly creatures), so I will add in comments on the wonderful youkai included or referenced in Naruto! Let's start with the nine-tailed fox! Called 'kyuubi no kitsune' in Japanese (kyuu = nine, bi = tail(s), kitsune = fox), this is a powerful fox demon (or spirit, as the subtitles called it). They can have any number of tails up to nine, with generally one being 'grown' every hundred years or so, so the more tails they have the stronger they are. Thus the nine-tails is an old and POWERFUL creature.
