Welcome To Our Patreon!
Added 2025-01-28 14:30:54 +0000 UTCHello folks, Laurie here, welcome to Chaotic Neutral’s Patreon: a brand new way for you to support the channel in making top tier tabletop roleplaying content!
I’m going to tell you a bit about what this is all about, how you can support us here, what exclusive perks you’ll get and the reasoning behind the decision to launch this Patreon.
Quite simply we’re offering you exclusive monthly Call of Cthulhu episodes! We’ve only got two tiers: a $2 support tier which will help fund the ongoing production of content for this channel and a $6.50 tier which not only nets you the warm fuzzies of helping us make content, but gets you access to those exclusive Cthulhu episodes to boot.
We’re super excited about Patreon and I’ll tell you for why: firstly because it gives us the ability to do some things that YouTube doesn’t generally reward: like ongoing campaigns! YouTube traditionally loves an ‘episode one’, but you see views drop off for each subsequent episode in the series, despite them all costing the exact same amount to produce. Which is why we’ve been putting everything out as complete one-shot episodes since our D&D campaign wrapped up (though we definitely snuck a series link into Dom’s Cthulhu-verse episodes)!
That, plus the fact that YouTube revenue across the platform is in the toilet and has been for YEARS now, means that this is really the only way to do the kind of content we want to make at the quality we want to make it at. One Patreon backer is essentially worth thousands of YouTube views and we don’t have to answer to the whims of an algorithm that seemingly changes with the tides. So we can do ongoing campaigns!
Our first foray into that world with Cthulhu starts now: the story of the characters from our latest YouTube video continues here on Patreon with a three episode mini-campaign telling a brand new story in the Dom-verse. Which means from January-March we’ll be journeying through this mini-campaign and after that… It's up to our backers! We can either continue the campaign with the characters (those still alive at least) or tell a new story with new characters and a new cast.
Our new Patreon plan does mean some changes on the main channel though, we’re going to be putting out fewer videos while the Patreon settles in. We’ve planned to put out one new Cthulhu one-shot on YouTube every three months while continuing to play CoC here on Patreon monthly. That’s still 16 episodes of Cthulhu across the year! The decision behind this move is because YouTube revenue doesn’t even cover the direct costs of the cast and editing for an episode. Our most successful one-shot has nearly 300,000 views and that has BARELY covered those costs, never mind pre-production, Dom’s prep time or overheads like the studio etc. TTRPG content costs a LOT to do well.
But Patreon could change that content plan pretty quickly! We’ve got a really good idea of the number of backers we would need to make this plan sustainable and keep putting out great Cthulhu content both on Patreon and YouTube. And if we exceed that amount we just want to add more content! I want to get to a place where we have Cthulhu one month, then another RPG one-shot on YouTube and an accompanying mini-campaign starting on Patreon the next month. I want us to still be able to play everything from big budget productions like D&D or Daggerheart all the way down to one-page weirdness, rather than just having to do what YouTube rewards… making the exact same thing over and over again until the end of time.
That’s one of the major reasons we’ve splintered this Patreon off from NRB’s: to do all of this we need to be able to accurately see how many people like the idea and want to support what we’re making. To achieve that while incorporating Chaotic Neutral into NRB’s Patreon properly would likely involve adding a brand new tier and then we’d essentially be asking people to pay for a load of content they’re not all that interested in to watch our Cthulhu episodes.
So that’s the plan and we hope you’re up for coming along for the ride! The first episode of our Cthulhu mini-campaign is available right now and we’ve got the others in the can ready to go in February and March, then after that it’s up to our backers!
Laurie x

I would also love to know if you, as a group, plan on making any of Dom's CoC scenarios available as a higher Patron tier or for purchase in any way. I have enjoyed your CoC live plays with the gang for some time now and would love to run one of his scenarios for myself. Any chance ?

2025-02-22 15:41:53 +0000 UTCThanks for telling us when the next episodes are releasing, I was foaming at the mouth in anticipation. I can now slumber till the anointed time. Personally I'd like some oneshots for Blades in the dark, mothership, cyberpunk and Vaesen as I feel like they are RPGs that don't get a lot of attention compared to the likes of D&D. As with the ongoing campaign, it would make more sense from a production standpoint to do a YT episode then a mini campaign following those characters, just cuz you can schedule and film it all in one go. It give variation, and give guests chance to develop there characters. However that would put as lot of pressure on Dom to keep pumping out original stories or adaptations. So might be easier to an episode, mini campaign then a second mini campaign in the same setting swapping out people depending on survivors or scheduling. And for the YT episodes your not doing a mini campaigns for; you just do a classic pre written book scenario. That way you can space it out, and time to develop stories. More time with characters before there inevitable demise.

2025-02-15 16:42:55 +0000 UTCJust recently found you guys thanks to some of your Oxventure cast-crossovers, and I've been bingeing CoC and your D&D season. I'd love to see a second season of that as well, but once I find a group of people I like to watch actual play, I don't really care what TTRPG system they're playing. I think it's great that you're finding a funding source that doesn't rely on fickle YouTube.

2025-02-10 03:47:45 +0000 UTCI don’t usually do patreons, but your CoC campaigns are worth it. They’re the only live plays I really enjoy watching from start to finish. Keep up the good work.

2025-02-08 17:15:46 +0000 UTCIs there any chance Dom could share his Cthulhu scenario notes to Patrons as a tier, or something along those lines? I would love to run a version of his Cluedo scenario for a prime example.

2025-02-07 18:29:49 +0000 UTCTook the plunge and decided to support this Patreon. I love the main board game channel, but I'd love to see the RPG side grow more. RPG actual plays are becoming a competitive space on Youtube, but NRB brings their own unique flavour to the table, especially Dom's Cthulhu games, which are a personal highlight. I'd love to see more one-shots and short campaigns using different systems though, rather than more DnD and other generic fantasy settings.

2025-02-07 03:01:20 +0000 UTCDoes this mean for 6.50 I get you and Dom’s email to send you my unsolicited advice and opinions?

2025-02-06 17:32:13 +0000 UTCI'd love to see you guys try out the Fallout RPG. I have the stuff for it myself, but I haven't got around to doing a campaign yet. I'd love to see what you guys do with it

2025-02-06 14:56:45 +0000 UTCI understand the decision to divide the interest spheres; and have decided to pledge for now, but it does mean a lower membership on NRB on the flip side to justify the monthly cost to now two patreons. If the big tier on NRB had included both, I'd happily stayed on that :)

2025-02-02 01:07:10 +0000 UTCI have no problem paying for more TTRPG content, esp. with Dom providing the stories (also a patreon on the Apocalypse Players). Will stay subscribed to NRB for the Betrayal camaign also, so more content in the month for me.

2025-02-01 22:56:30 +0000 UTCYour content is exquisite. I LOVE Dom as a storyteller and you guys are the reason I even like CoC at all, you guys are ALL amazing actors, and so so so funny. If being here gets me more of that then I am happy to help. When a new episode drops I'm so happy, every time! I think the idea of more roleplaying content, and also your plans for that sounds super exciting. Thank you for amazing content!

2025-02-01 16:09:57 +0000 UTCLove y'all. Screw Youtube and their perpetual shafting of creators that don't toe the algorithm line.

2025-02-01 13:49:44 +0000 UTCHappy to pay for the things I enjoy watching, though it does mean Wrestletalk Patreon loses out in the allocation of funds as I'm not interested in that as much these days.

2025-02-01 11:49:49 +0000 UTCFantastic! Was waiting for this. So glad to support this, and wish you many more subscribers. Question: Any possibility you could post even the regular Youtube videos here, as well? I’m taking a break from paying for Youtube (to fund my favorite creators directly). But ads on YT these days are cosmically-horrible, so i just end up skipping whole videos. If you would have time to post those here I would be extra-happy. I’ll still like and comment on your YT videos to make sure the eldritch algorithm gets its due, so you can continue to promote your Patreon. Glad you made a separate Patreon for TTRPG stuff, Call of Cthulhu’s been my top fave since i was a kid in the 80s, and your take always makes me smile. 🥇
