Phase 2 out of 3 is now available for testing. This phase currently adds roughly 7,000 words of new content to the game. I originally intended to add more but we ran into some technical issues behind the scenes that were hampering some of the things we were trying to do and we weren’t able to get those kinks worked out in time for this release. So some of the interaction text is full-on placeholder text or semi-complete text with a shorter description. Though there are still more than a few fully completed passages (Though still subject to editing/alteration in the future.) A larger portion of the work was on the back end this time around adjusting and fixing things we hadn’t thought of initially to make planned features work down the line and fix some more immediate bugs and issues we found.
One of the main things we were working on is creating more situationally specific interactions or interactions that change based on previous interactions. One of the major ones that’s playable in this version is some scenes have different versions of themselves based on if Fang has had certain articles of clothing removed with the “Undress” option in “Engage”. Unfortunately one of the technical issues we were running into was making the undress option work as intended as it was supposed to be a separate menu that let you manually choose what article of clothing to take off of Fang. We were able to add the undressing function but currently it randomly chooses which article of clothing is removed out of the 3 options: Shirt, Shoes, and Pants. Each one has a slightly different resource requirement so if you can remove one but the button is still unable to be used again at that point use other options to increase the resource bar and they will become available as well. This issue also meant the undress option does not disappear as it is meant to when all 3 options have been chosen so if you’ve used it 3 times it will still stay there but remain unclickable.
We are aware the resource bar fills up very quickly and it is our goal after we get the framework for phase 3 out as well, which is our next goal, we will then work to do some balancing and adjustment to those to make it a more fulfilling and properly paced experience. Then we will begin working on some of the extra features we have planned and finishing the placeholder bits of text while improving some of the others.
This game is made in collaboration with my friend Articus who has become a very quick friend over the last year and who has several projects of their own they've worked on. The most well-known one currently is Bigger is Better: a twine based macro micro themed RPG. They’re working with me to help realize some of the projects I've wanted to work on for quite a while from the development and coding end while I provide the writing and concept/ direction. So far I’m happy how the project is going so far. We’re working out a lot of the kinks we need to to make a game like this work which will make it much, much smoother and easier to make the next game of a similar type to this that we have planned once this one is at a sufficiently complete level. While it is meant to be a stepping stone towards another project I still enjoy the idea we have for this one and plan to make it as enjoyable as possible. Hope you all like what we’ve got so far!
