In this artist talk, recorded from a live Zoom on the 28th March 2025, I spoke to printmaker Jemma Gunning about her past work and recent residencies. This talk is the first in our Spring planographic printmaking term, where we focus on a different artist each month whose work involves planographic printmaking processes like monotype and lithography.
If you'd like a better understanding of the printmaking terms used in the talk, check out our planographic explainer HERE.
You can follow Jemma on Instagram HERE
Laura will be several workshops teaching in Bristol this year.
About
Jemma is a British artist-printmaker with drawing at the core of her work. She primarily uses intaglio and monoprinting to convey the connection between artistic expression and our environment, often tackling interpretations of decay within post-industrial landscapes. She says of her work:
"In my ongoing artistic evolution, I am drawn to monumental landscapes, particularly mountains, seeking to capture their imposing force and inherent beauty. This new exploration signifies a subtle shift in focus, hinting at my fascination with changing landscapes and the dynamic interplay between humanity and nature. Through my work, I offer viewers a poignant glimpse into our fading heritage and a reflection on the enduring vitality found amidst decay. Each piece serves as a testament to the impermanence of our cultural past and the ever-changing tapestry of life that shapes our collective narratives.”
