This photoset is the first of our new domestic series, exploring the potential of different rooms of a house as settings for painterly tableau of staged domestic action. In collaboration with our photographer Justyna Neryng and with Tobias Slater-Hunt assisting on lighting the models explored a series of interior narratives, inspired by historical and contemporary works of art. In this particular set we wanted to use the stepped doorways leading out of the dining room to create a series framed compositions, referencing Ewan Uglow's The Blue Towel, with the muted colour palette and quiet atmosphere of Vilhelm Hammershøi's interiors. We've included a series of crops of the main images to help you make closer studies of the models. We always intend these sets to be a starting point for your own creative responses, so feel free to re-compose, crop and reimagine the reference images in your own work. For lunch in the dining room Bella is serving Yotam Ottolenghi's Soba noodles with aubergine and mango - you'll find the recipe linked below.
