UPDATE

Hey everyone,

So, many of you will have already figured this out based on my update the other day and radio silence the past few but I did indeed catch covid from my mum. Yay. I've basically spent the last few days bedridden and while I think now I'm starting to recover, I'm very much still Not Good.

There's no way to predict exactly how long I'm gonna be out of action. Hopefully it'll only be a few more days max so I'm hoping to at least be able to post a couple things at the end of the week and be back fully from Monday (27th). That should be more than enough time for me to fully recover and catch up on some filming. If it does seem like it's going to take longer than that - like if the symptoms last longer - I will of course let you know.

I also want to quickly remind you guys that if you are able to, please get covid and flu boosters. This bout of covid took me out before I could get my booster and while I know that the boosters make me feel pretty rough for a couple days, it's nothing compared to spending a week stuck in bed because of the full thing. And that's of course the best case scenario. I am young and, aside from some minor asthma, I am not a particularly 'at risk' person but god knows there are many people out there that are.

Certain people in power may try and tell you covid doesn't exist or it's not a big deal but the simple facts of the matter are that things like covid and the flu can and will kill. Maybe not you but maybe people around you and people you come into contact with on a random afternoon. We may not be dealing with lockdowns and pandemic level numbers and all the rest anymore, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't still be careful and take precautions. Especially at this time of year.

So, like I said, if you can, get vaccinated and get your boosters each year. If you know you've been in contact with someone unwell, even if you're not symptomatic, where a mask in public. If you do develop symptoms, rest at home as much as possible. I know not everyone has the luxury of being able to take a week or more off from their whole lives but just do what you can.

I realise this might seem a bit dramatic and it probably is but these past few days have just reminded me of something I had honestly let myself forget. That these viruses are truly awful and while they might not affect me too badly, they sure can cause serious harm to others.

I went to the gym the day before I started showing symptoms. I knew my mum was ill and I could well be carrying covid but I didn't take any precautions. What if someone else caught it from me? What if they got it a lot worse than me? That's what I've been thinking about on and off the past few days.

We've gotta do better man. Gotta look after ourselves AND each other. So yeah, I just wanted to say that. I'm sure many of you don't need reminding and I apologise if this at all comes off patronising - definitely isn't my intention - but just in case: please, look after each other.

Anyway, like I said, I'll do my best to have a couple things uploaded in the second half of this coming week and then hopefully we'll be back full the following Monday. If anything about that plan changes, I'll let you know!

All love.

Get well soon, Kaia. All my love to you and your mom. If you aren't eligible for antivirals -- they did wonders for me although I'm not sure if I can get them now given... the government -- I really hope you get your rest and fluids in. <3 It is pretty knowing the general population's and even some healthcare professionals' dismissive stance on covid as a disabled person (not of the immunocompromised variety as far as I'm aware, outside of a period after I caught it last year), and I live with my family who very much do not take any precautions. I do my due diligence wherever I can and just have to hope that's enough until something happens with this country's public health system lmao.

Hope you and your mom both feel better soon! BTW, if you have a bad reaction to the MRNA vaccines, try getting the Novavax vaccine next time you get your booster. The MRNA shots always put me on my ass for a day or two after, but I've had no side effects when I got the Novavax booster.
