Taylor Made - Chapter 14

Four confessions. One Halloween costume. And a decision that could end everything.

So, funny story - this was supposed to be the final chapter. I sat down to wrap everything up and realized Taylor had other plans. Turns out there was way more ground to cover than I'd anticipated, and Chapter 14 clocked in at nearly 12,000 words. Oops.

The good news: you're getting a meaty chapter with 10 new images. The bad news (or good news, depending on how you look at it): we're not done yet. Chapter 15 will be the true finale.

I'm aiming to have the final chapter out this month, but it might slip into next month. Quality over speed, right?

Thanks for sticking with Taylor's journey! We're almost there. Can't wait to read your thoughts. πŸ’•

I absolutely love your work on "Taylor Made". The depth you are able to reach with the long form prose, accentuated with your artwork, is something I truly look forward to. I do wish Tay's mom had met Maya. Maybe at Thanksgiving.

How Monday's meeting should go, with Taylor's opening and the MIT scholarship office staff's initial response quoting Taylor's and his mom's own words: Taylor: "I'm not actually a girl." Staff: "Yeah, we know. Your mom told us last summer that you were transgender. That you were a trans girl. That's why we have you rooming with Abigail." Taylor: "If I'm... I don't even know what I am yet. Non-binary maybe? Or some days a guy and some days not?" Staff: "Trans? Non-binary? Somewhere along the continuum? Neither black nor white, but a shade of grey? The last I looked, there are at least 50 shades of grey, not just one. You look comfortable presenting as a girl right now. How do you feel about that?" Taylor: "I feel good, but nervous. I might lose my scholarship... and miss out on the life that I'm living now. For the first time in my life, I feel like I belong." Staff: "And how about Abigail? Does she see you and accept you as a kindred spirit? She hasn't asked us for a different roommate." Taylor: "Abigail is my best friend. We would die if we were separated." Staff: "Then what's the issue?" Taylor: "It's my scholarship. It belongs to a girl. I don't deserve it." Staff: "You can't be saying that we shouldn't award scholarships to transgender or other non-binary individuals?" Taylor: "No, that would be wrong." Staff: "Then, I still don't see the issue. Our mission here at MIT is to produce the nation's highest caliber college graduates, and based on what I see in both your academic record and in the bright young student sitting across from me right now, you are exactly the type of person MIT needs if we expect to succeed in our mission."

So beautiful and heartwarming, my dear muse Emory.

Yay!! Another great chapter. Costumes. Mom. Roommates. Friends. Happy sigh.

This is the type of story you can continue forever. There are lots of stories to tell. Glad its not ending now and will be sad after chapter 15

Wait wait wait wait. Where's Maya's costume!?

Another, her mom, page 10, bottom.

One of Will's lines is colored pink instead of yellow on page 3 towards the bottom.

God I hope they are there next year, I’m nervous for them. Love the costume choice!

Samantha Louise

This is yet another amazing chapter! As I've said before, you are a creative genius. I can't wait for the final chapter...!

Jerome B

Wonderful story. Amazing, honest, caring friends. I love them all! You could have ended it there, but I'm glad you didn't. I will miss these people. Thank you for this. (and more stories like this. Please?)

Claire

I like happy stories

LONG, but terrific. This felt real. This felt like I was reading an actual person's story. It was definitely worth the time. Thanks for posting this.

Kris Greg

Thanks, Diana! I’ll respond fully to your comment later but just wanted to quickly say that this is NOT the end. It was supposed to be, but the chapter grew in the telling and so now it’s the penultimate chapter instead. There will be another!

Absolutely loved this soooo much. The fluffy feelzβ„’ and then Abigail and Tay's mum. πŸ₯ΉπŸ’– Art was stunning as per yuzβ€”can really tell that you've grown more and more comfortable with this style. And Tay's H'Ween costume... Not predictable at all. 😁

Diana

Well this was fucking adorable

Alyson Greaves

I believe that what you've done in giving us another chapter is technically called 'doing a Greaves'. But as with Alyson's Zeno's Paradox approach to writing, I'm totally here for it. The more writing from both of you there is, the better the world is. As for the chapter - it was lovely. It needed the space you gave it to properly breathe and actually tell the story. And, even at this length it felt like it could have been longer - I'd have loved to see some more of Taylor's mum over the weekend. Did she meet Maya? I loved everyone's reactions to Taylor coming out, even his semi-confession/ explanation of why he chose Jadzia. And it was absolutely perfect, explaining both his own gender-fuckery and that of Dax in a way that DS9 never managed. (Chloe was spot on in her observation). I love that Abigail has found love. Or at least serious lust. She deserves it. And also that she's been 'adopted' by someone who cares. If the Thanksgiving dinner isn't part of the last chapter then I hope you consider giving it to us as a Snapshot coda, if only to see the family - blood and found - happy and together. I do have one complaint though - no picture of Maya in her Audrey Hepburn dress! Her Breakfast At Tiffany's look is iconic and when you mentioned it I really wanted to see your portrayal of the look. But you know, that's minor. We were spoilt with all the artwork you gave us. One last thing: 'The spots go all the way down' made me laugh out loud. (And wish for a picture depicting that...)

O-M-G!!!!! WOW!!!!!!!! A-MAZE-ING!!!!!! This is incredible. Despite the fact I want more because I want Taylor to have MIT and the scholarship understand and allow him to stay. Plus I want to know how Thanksgiving goes and if Indiana survived Abigail. But i get it and it is the perfect place to end and allow our imaginations to fill in the gaps and provide our own ending. But also a perfect place in case in a while you decide you want to revisit and advance the story further. Only disappointment, you had Maya, dressed as Holly Golightly, on a fire escape and did not have her singing "Moon River". πŸ˜” But you had me with the first two images in the boat house. As a rower I am a sucker for anything rowing related. And your rowing references and commentary were almost spot on. Almost like you may have spent time in a boathouse or on a crew team at one time. Love and Respect!!! And Jadzia Dax, pitch perfect!!!! I could not think of a better costume for Taylor. It is a very pointedly statement making costume and yet also subtle and understated. If you know Taylor and Star Trek beyond TOS reruns, then you know. But if not then it is just a very detailed Star Trek costume probably worn by a very hard core fan or Trekkie. If you don't know you probably don't need to know. The only thing I was a little disturbed about after all the drama about Taylor's deception and need to come clean, is, does Will know about Abigail? If he does, cool, I probably just missed that somewhere. They seem like a cute couple. But that is a piece of information that should probably be shared before entering into a drunk make-out session, because you never know how a person may respond. But over all great story with fantastic art. 5 🌟's!!!!! Two πŸ‘!!!!!!!!!
