2023-05-04 16:28:13 +0000 UTCBecause he first saw her as a child and watched her grow up... my interpretation has always been that August loved Christine like a surrogate parent loves a child. He just didn't have the means to fully contextualize the feelings. But it made her important in his eyes. And saving the stuffed animal for her... sacrificing himself for her future... are such caring things to do. I'm a sucker for the trope when the least-seeming 'human'... reflects the most humanity. (Spock, Data, etc...)
