Interestingly, Nina's email to Bell reveals a callback to 1x02. Nina refers to it as the suspension of the Penrose-Carson experiments. Dr. Carson being the Tylers 'father' here... and we know a Dr. Penrose from 1x02, 'father' of the rapid aging, pituitary gland eating, Christopher Penrose. Linking cloning with rapid aging... which makes sense as a combo. (And potentially mind-control.) Even neater... both 1x02 & 2x07 heavily parallel a scientist's problematic father/son relationship.
