Secret - Page Test!

IT'S PAGE TEST DAY!
How have you all been?
I bring you another page test for No North's book 2!
This time this is what I tried out:
No lineart again - just directly painting my original sketch
loose, "handmade" and fun background art
Playing around with the paneling again - making the flowers escape the frame as a way to convey Sherry's overwhelming wonder.
White borders + loose speech bubbles
I feel like this painterly style gives me so much creative freedom to play around with things that were once very strict about my old style. Being able to paint flowers, plants and animals in a more "impressionistic" way feels amazing beyond words! Maybe it also feels softer on the eye as well.
I feel like we're getting close to something very lovely.
How do you guys feel about this style? I think this one is my favorite so far.

I really like it Skailla! I think it looks and feels very close to the style you used in Book 1. It's a bit more of a painterly style but that doesn't feel like it detracts anything in terms of aesthetic consistency with the first book. I honestly think it looks really nice, and I agree that you're getting close to finding the style that will work best. In fact, this might be it! 👍

I can't imagine how much work was behind it all, you must have a lot of patience and I wish you good luck with it. I have one question, would you be so kind as to make one page in the future in multiple styles so we can see the comparison? I don't mean so many styles, just those with which you yourself will be most satisfied, because I think I will speak for everyone when I say that I can imagine all the test pages in Book 2. Each one has its own charm and atmosphere and i can’t help myself, I adore it.

It's painted so wonderfully, and it looks like it came straight out of a fairytale book. The stone wall especially looks gorgeous, with the cracks and highlights! I also love the shading on the puppies and the way the flowers pop out of the page. I think that feature should definitely be implemented in this new style! I think the sketchy lineart looks cool too. It adds more charm and emotion to the character's expressions! I think this style is progressing very nicely, and I'm starting to love it! It'll look great in the next book
