Another infamous page style test incoming! 😂
This is a very special scene that should happen in Book 2. I hope it's not too spoilerish!
This is what I'm testing out on this page: a more monochromatic color scheme and how it affects emotion, skipping the lineart step and using my original sketch + white borders and loose speech bubbles.
I'm fairly pleased with this result, personally! I've always felt that so much emotion and expressiveness is lost when I clean up my sketches. So this might be a way to increase emotion in the comic!
I'm also slowly falling in love with the "handmade" look that this style gives out. In an era where AI looks exactly like my usual art style, this feels like a breath of fresh air.
I also feel a lot of freedom to go a bit crazy with the paneling and the art style itself. Which is very instigating and stimulating for the creative brain!
But what do you think of this? I'd really love to hear your thoughts on it! They're super important to me!!

I like the monochromatic color scheme here, and I agree with others here that it does give the page a nostalgic feel, almost as if we're looking at one of Steban's memories I can't wait to see this moment in Book 2! I can already get a deeper sense from this of how close Steban and Faye were, and how much she filled the role of someone that he leaned on for moral support. I'm looking forward to seeing their relationship explored further when the comic continues! It's a beautiful little scene and interaction between them, and I just love it! 💖

This scene just feels so warm and having Steban seem to be at peace and not having troubles to worry about. Everyone just seems to be so happy and Edgar in his younger years without glasses

2024-10-18 21:00:08 +0000 UTCAs a general rule, I quite love how expressive this style looks and I like the vibes of the page like that, but (and idk if that's just bc its a flashback) the borders being so light and everything being that sepia monotone made me confused as to where one panel ended and another began at first! Same with the dogs' silhoutettes blending in with their shadows in the water. I really do quite like this as much as your current page style tho, I wouldnt mind seeing comic go with this! Getting the occasional "full style" picture while maintaining the comic like this would be fantastic. I love the emotion in this page.

It just feels carefree and as if it has so much power of creativity… to be honest the detailed style wouldn’t give me the vibes I’d receive from this one plus this scene altogether!! To me, this style feels like those retro comics as well!! And all these textures and colors working together make this style look simple yet detailed in a way altogether aaahhh!! I could write a whole book here ‘bout this haha!

2024-10-18 14:45:32 +0000 UTCThis is an EXCELLENT page! I simply adore the color scheme, it looks very nostalgic, straight out of Steban’s memories! I think the monochromatic scheme looks best with memory pages, while keeping more vibrant colors to the present moment pages. One of the things I love most about your art style is how vibrant the colors are! With the addition of the other characters swimming in the background, it looks as if some of it was almost recreated in Steban’s mind slightly different from reality! I also really like the more sketchy line art. I also think the borders could be a little bit thinner as well. But I think the shading has improved a LOT from the last test page. THIS is what I want to see in all the pages. In fact, I think adding more shadows to the characters along with the highlights will really make this pop! Ofc, I will always miss the old art style, but this is growing on me! I 100% agree that the old look did have an AI feel to it, because it was so good! I do love the hand-drawn charm this new style brings, almost like out of an old Disney movie! I also think the simplicity brings more attention to the facial expressions, which is what matters most. The old style was SO detailed that the characters’ line art almost felt constricting and limited. (I also noticed Edgar doesn’t have his glasses or tie, but idk if that was intentional or not lol) Overall, I think this scene is beautiful story-wise. Faye clearly played a big part in Steban’s past, and she is growing on me!!! I cannot wait to see more of this!
