Long Lost

How have you been? :D
So here's a little something I did to unwind from a few stressful days: quick illustrations for the most beautiful song, Long Lost by Lord Huron
I have known Lord Huron since 2012 and their songs are at the core of No North. They're my favorite band, but Long Lost managed to become my favorite song. It somehow echoes all the lives I could have lived. My deepest dreams and the myths I've buried deep in myself.
My birthday is coming up next week, and it's funny to think I'll be the age I placed so much expectation over (on my personal life): 27. The ghosts of what "could have been" had I made the right choices are haunting to me, and I know I won't be able to keep the promises I made to myself. So it's been kinda bittersweet.
But sweet in the sense that it's far from over. No matter the feeling, good or bad, there's always art to be made from it! And during these strange times, I'll hold on to the one promise I can: Making No North happen.
There's so much ahead, for all of us. The future is forever a mystery, and there's a lot to be gained if we dare. Perhaps not always what we had planned. Perhaps something wonderful.
So onward - into the future and the wonders it holds for us!
Thank you all so much for being with me on this journey. I seriously can't believe I'm traveling through life with such a wonderful pack! I'm so grateful I got to meet you guys, and I can't express enough how much I appreciate your support. It truly means everything to me!

Always remember these quotes: -"He who is happiest with the least, actually has the most." -"Diogenes had nothing, Alexander had everything, yet only one of them were truly free." -"I am not a citizen of Athens or Greece, but of the world." -"Dogs and philosophers do the greatest good and get the fewest rewards." -"Look not to the past nor future, for fret and regret only causes suffering." -"Always value Content and Love over Money and Fame." I think that if you keep these teachings in mind, it would help you go though life happier :)

2021-05-20 14:02:02 +0000 UTCoh skailla you have no idea the impact your art has on us. this piece made my heart hurt for the mountains. i miss those open meadows and wide blue skies. i miss the sunsets and forests. i’ve been so caught up in school that i needed this escape. i’m going to the sea in a few weeks and i can’t thank you enough for keeping my wandering soul alive while i can not travel.

2021-05-20 08:42:52 +0000 UTCI think you should look up a philosopher called Diogenes, he is my favourite philosopher. Diogenes lived a life of homelessness without wanting anything in life. Even Alexander The Great felt humbled by him, a perfect example of two extreme opposites meeting. He also said my favourite quote, which is: "He who is happiest with the least, actually has the most". All the things that people wanted, what could have been, meant nothing to Diogenes; and so he was already freer than the richest people in the world. Another one of my favourite quotes is: "Diogenes had nothing, Alexander had everything, yet only one of them were truly free". He teaches that everyone should live in the "now", rather than pondering the past or future. Which is advice I like to follow, I personally see traits of Diogenes within myself, especially when it comes to material possessions and wanting "what could have been". I feel like I have been happier when I live in the "now" rather than pondering the past or future. I think you should look him up and see what you think :)
