Personality: Like a dark shadow, the mention of his name alone is enough to spread panic across helpless towns. And his reputation precedes him: Vernon is the cruel leader of one of the most violent and powerful clans of the Lonesome Deserts. He’s known to show no sign of mercy or remorse, even killing his own dogs when they fail him. He is sadistic in his training of new members, only keeping the strongest. Everything and anyone is disposable to him. As his clan grows bigger, Vernon is being seen less and less. He hardly ever gets involved in raids, preferring to order the other Scorpions to do his bidding. Among the many disturbing tales about him, Vernon is said to have a deadly bite, as poisonous as a rattlesnake's. Dogs debate whether this is true, but something is certain, no one really wants to find out for themselves. Vernon is a believer of the paranormal and his superstitions are deeply tied to his character. He sometimes seems to act from a place of desperation, especially regarding the compass and his mysterious intentions with it.

Background: Vernon spent a great part of his life obsessively searching for the Northless Compass and expanding his domain of terror. Little is known about his early life, but his sociopathic and narcissistic behaviours were always the rulers of his life. He knew how to get things going his way, and his immense physical strength was what gave him a feared name as an outlaw. Other bandits gravitated towards him, and Vernon has hardly ever been alone. The “golden age” of the Scorpions began when he found Hank as a young pup and strangely decided to keep and train him. Hank became the strongest member of the Scorpions, and the only dog Vernon seems to trust.

Relations: No known blood relations. Has personally trained and raised Hank.

Trivia:

- Vernon has an ominous, hidden collection of “Trophies”. Bandanas, ropes, bags, ties. They belonged to each dog he has ever killed.
