New preview build & CM Workshop progress report

First of all, I have to apologize for such a long delay, it has been a really tough month… Thankfully, now things seem to get somewhat better, so everything is slowly getting back on track.
On a brighter side, there was a lot of progress with CM Workshop, I believe it might be ready for early launch (mainly for testing) in a week or two. Still a lot of work left to do, but now server core is properly sorted out and finalized, allowing to add things like comments, likes or reports in the matter of minutes (client-side is another story, but that part is getting better too). You can keep track of its progress here.
As usual, here is a new build Rain FX. Main changes:
- Now, rain intensity is driven by Weather FX;
- Tweaked and readjusted spray generation;
- Improved windscreen raindrops shading, to make it feel a bit more intense;
- Compatibility between Rain FX and Windscreen FX;
- Various fixes for things like tyres or drops shading.
With Weather FX compatibility, now you would either use default Weather FX controller or wait for the next Sol update which will set rain intensity accordingly. Weather FX debug option is still available as well.
Also, now you can use Rain FX online: add “For testing, rain is active with intensity N%.” to server’s welcome message, replacing N with a number from 1 to 100, and that should activate rain for all connected drivers. Please avoid running any serious races like that, rain physics is still not entirely ready, and it doesn’t have any integrity verification at the moment.
Speaking of which, another not-so-public-at-the-moment change (included with 0.1.67 update) is that now CSP would try to prevent speed hack from Cheat Engine, so if you want to make sure your server would not allow people to use it, set minimum required version to 1255.

i cant seem to get rain to work. all the weather options seem to work, i.e. stomy, cloudy etc etc but no rain at all. i have all everything up to date. any ideas?? much appreciated :0)

Love the work that is put in to this, amazing how good its looking.
I have spent some time trying to find the best setting for my system with 1.69 to fight jaggies. I like the crisp look with post procession AA Fidelity Cas by AMD but got some flickering in reflections. What I found out is that static high resolution reflections almost get rid of all my flickering. With that setting I dont see any differens in fps, between .69 and .70, in rain. Static reflections could be worth trying for them struggling with fps. With high resolution reflections it still looks good. With .70 I have some stuttering going on that I need to figure out though. Another thing I noticed is that I get a massive stutter using a weather plan when the weather is about to change.

Yes go to Documents/Assetto Corsa/cfg/Extension/particles.ini and reduce Smoke Dev Limit.. I use 2500 and is perfect.

Ive noticed that when you drive a GT car the divers helmet has the rain FX on it, surly it should be dry ? Other than that fantastic mod loving it. Can you please make the effect for open cockpit so that the FX is on the camera please, so that it looks like you are looking through rain effected helmet.

The rain sounds are not implemented yet. You only can have it when downgrading to CSP 1.52, save the sfx folder from extension folder and upgrade it again to 0.169, copying the sfx folder again into extension folder., overwriting your files. But it has some bugs included then.

Check to make sure your Rain debug is checked off and play with settings from there, also make sure to check mark the RainFx in the CSP settings

Great Mod! Though I am experiencing a weird bug, where each car has two small green lights emitting from them. Don't know if others have it aswell. Is there a way to fix it? I run an AMD GPU and CPU just as a sidenote

I am absolutely blown away by the looks of the rain. It was the same wow effect as it used to be with the new smoke (while doing some drift tandems). Racing on the nords in the rain is just really intense, youre absolutely not able to see anything behind another car, I love it. Are there any performance optimizations possible for the new rain? I would love to use it, but my FPS are dropping from fixed 90 to around 65 on a Pimax 5k+ (large FOV), RTX 3080@2,1ghz, 9700k@5ghz.

make sure you have rain on in csp settings.. then when you are in the car just add each weather to the plan then save it.. quit custom manager then go back in and it should be there to pick.

Am I missing something? Using a random weather plan with Sol 2 can I link it to the Rain FX preview so that it rains outside the car and on the circuit/road when the Weather plan Rain/Thunderstorm kicks in - Any help gratefully received and Happy Holidays

I have also tried to run rain in online server with welcome message but didnt worked at all. Not even the night working . Anybody could start to work as intended ?Also sometimes the rain sfx sound is changing too loud and then its going back to normal which is still loud in my opinion . Otherwise its an amazing work ,almost unbelievable those raindrops on windshield

After many trials with this release i see these issues : 1 - Performance issue when i enable lightning_fx (but we need it for rain track surface) 2 - Rain drop on windshield stay there when you change sol (2.0) weather from rain to clear for example. !!!! But impressive job made for this CSP release 1.69 !!!!

Was anybody able to get a rainFX online server to run?
I used the command in several variations in the CM welcome message when setting up the server and have also made sure rain weather was selected.
I just cannot get rain to work on the server - in single player rain works great.

Everything works perfect with the new SOL 2.0. Any plans on trying to help the AI handling with the wet tracks? I know it's a hard task but would be cool if they could react to the wet weather too, right now they just sbinalla around the track on high speed corners.

I have also this freeze in that conditions, even if really a fraction of a second, not really 2 seconds like you.
I already pointed in a previous post, just to make Ilja aware.
I think we have not to be worried about it, I think it's due to the early stage of the implementation of the connection of Rain_FX with Weather_FX (it's the first time it's implemented)
For sure something on which Ilja will work for optimizing.

Hi, it's impossible for me to play! when i open content manager with no lights patch i can play and exit normally. When i use the light patch ( any), i can play but any time i try to exit from the game in order to return to menu, the game stop, the pc too ( impossible to go to task manager ) and i have to disconnect my profile to return on windows. Is there anyone that have the same problem?

my biggest issue now is, having dynamic weather plan using rain:
for example using "random" weather, when the rain starts... a BIG FREEZE is on my screen, about 2 seconds.. and then the game continues with rain.

Is it possible to do an optimization of lighting_fx.ini file for VR usage ? because when i disable this one i have a good frames rate in VR, and if i enable it, whatever feature selected or disable inside, my frames rate is really poor. And we need it to have track rain reflection. So could you add a check box to disable every features or change complex distant value for lights rendering ?

Hello Ilja!! Good to see you are back and safe!! Since a few versions ago, the tyres when on grass they get kind of a mask imitating grass dirt on them. And if you turn your head on VR, this "mask" moves around the tyre. This doesn't happen with normal dirt, only grass. Is this supposed to happen? It breaks immersion a lot in VR. It wasn't like this before.

Not that I am an expert on this, But I think I can answer you question on some tracks not showing puddles... That has to be configured in the extensions. I looked at lilski's road America and figured out how to make it work on my summit point track. Probably some Kunos tracks have the extension config done and others don't.

Hi everyone after a manual clean install of the 1.69 preview 1 and Sol 2.0 RC 4 it's seems all is ok with rain fx ingame (i didn't test it online at all).
I have just little problem with the headlights of the cars. The front right headlights is often not rendered at all and stay black but the left is always perfect. Sometimes it's the 2 headlights that are not shining at all staying flat and dark.... Sometimes it's with moded cars but also with Kunos ones... . Anyone of you with an idea or trick ?
I've tried many ppfilters changes, disable windscreen fx, dxgi or not, yesebis or fxxa but there's still this bugg...
I must said to you that the wipers are now ok with many modded cars ( wasn't with the 1.67 version).
Wipers are ok with Guerilla's GT4 beta cars pack and even with ACL Legends Cars 3.0 pack. You can try them.
Finally some tracks won't have any water amount and puddles like the original Kunos Nurburgring even forced in debug rain fx menu, but it's ok on the Nordschleife, that's very strange.

I can no longer see AI headlights in the real mirrors, i see one set of headlights and the rest turn off, also their headlights are no longer lighting up the inside of the car, it's like there is no one behind me at all at night....i was using volumetric, so i changed back same thing, only one set of headlights in the mirrors, and the interior doesn't light up, so i gone back to volumetric, also there is no emissive glare from that one set of headlights, it's just two white squares, it was perfect in the last update, all the lights lit me up inside and the glare was awesome, phototrealisitc, but now it's just broke for some reason, i got the Sol 2 installed as well, is there new settings somewhere i am missing?

- there is a micro lag when the first rain drops appear on the windshield
- raindrops should appear more gradually on the windshield
- with 3 monitors in some condition there are some dark "lines" around the car on the track. I think something we had already in the past. I think something related to the wheel traces that are messed up with 3 monitors
Any way tested more deeply and all that I can say is: STUNNING!

awesome work agaain. have been waiting for online rain for ages haha but idk how to get it to work on my server im sure im just being a fool. but is someone able to screen shot where i need to make the changes or what settings to adjust

This happened to me as well. I manually installed SOL instead of allowing CM to install it and it fixed the issue.

No, it just allows rain physics to work if activated. I leave activated all the time no matter the condition I run. Although, I have found that very few cars actually won't even be drivable if you have extended physics on, so if you find you can't drive out of your pit box in a certain car, then turn it off, at least for that car.

On 1.69 preview 1 (With SOL beta18): Rain looks great. Still can't get wipers to function at all. (I don't mean they won't wipe, I mean they won't turn on at all.) The last version that my wipers turn on was 1.60... Tried BLM Car, tried SOL auto-manual rain, tried various mappings for Fanatec 2.5/Formula wheel,. Wipers work in CM showroom and regular Showroom, but not in-game. Anyone have suggestions?

Hi ilja, this is an incredible work. The rain feels and acts like real rain with amazing rain physics. One heck of the job man. It' working well so far with Sole 2.0 beta 18. I will need to do some more testing . Bu t so far so goo.d. Now I only want to drive in the rain. Thanks man!

In order this preview to work, it needs Sol 2.0 Beta 18. Great work Ilja! Now it looks even more gorgeous! Question: Checking "Allow to use patch car's data to activate extended physics" a checkbox "use extendeed physics experimental" appeared in drive session. Checking this box, obviously activate the physics for wet road. But, for dry road it needs to uncheck this parameter?

Hey Ilja I have a problem with my cars. The exhaust glows green kind of like a light. It illuminates off the tarmac, surrounding walls, cars etc... This happens with all cars both Kunos and Mod cars.

Sol 2 beta 18 and CSP 1.69 tested. Selected debug working well regardless of the selected weather. Without selecting Debug the rain accompanies the selected weather. The intensities work well according to the weather. Dynamic weather works well with Rain FX too

Still have to test in deep driving, so I'm really curious about rain physic, even if at early stage.
In offline, practice mode. Assuming to enable extended physic for the car, if I use a weather plan I can see start raining, tracks wetting and viceversa when drying. Is also rain physic working in sync with track condition or still to be implemented? If it's working is this also working online? Thank you

Can´t see the rain in any way at all.
Weatherfx or sol controller has the same result. The rainfx is activated and rain (sol) selected.

It's always great to see an update from you, though i had expected an even longer break to work on the "workshop". I hope all is well with you personally.
Now to the content of the patch:
Excellent to see rain being controlled by weatherfx, however there is a big problem in that the raindrops on the windshield are only active when the current weather is a "rainy" type of weather. For example: when manually switching from heavy rain to clear, once the weather engine completes the transition, any rain drops that were on the windshield remain static until a new rainy weather is selected. while in a realistic scenario such instant weather switching is unlikely, i hope this is a simple thing to fix. I am also using SOL 2.0 RC4.

Thank you! I believe issue with spray/smoke should be sorted out now, there were quite a few of fixes of all sorts. As for not working wipers, we’re working on configs too.

With the 1.67 preview 1 i had problem of too much smoke particules with rain effect. The smoke is very large and his color is always brown or very dark. The particules debug fx menu (smoke) didn't help me. Changing amount of wetness in the rain debug fx didn't too even linked. Either switching the amount of particules at minimum inside the custom shader patch (particules fx) made no change. Even switching my severals pp filtrer setups not changed this.
I saw problems of whipers that don't interact with the raindrops on the windscreen of cars that are non Kunos (or moded) but it's always very realistic with originals Kunos models.
I will tell you if it's better with this new preview as soon as possible.
