Hello, Adventurers! Today I have an update of the ACKS II Revised Rulebook. I also have a complete set of mortal wounds and tampering with mortality tables for your use. Those are available at the Dropbox links below.

Patch Notes for v116

  1.  The modifiers for mortal wounds and tampering with mortality are now in the rulebook; an appendix has been appended where the wounds & woe tables will appear
  2. The Cleaving section has been re-written to make clear some matters that were vague or confusing
  3. The Manual of Arms proficiency has been changed! I had made an inadvertent error when I had all fighters start with Manual of Arms etc becuase it meant that 25% of all mercenaries were marshals. I also realized I had forgotten to allow it to be used as a "professional expertise" proficiency like College Wizardry, Theology, and Streetwise. Going forward, characters will need two ranks to train LI, three ranks to train HI, but one rank now lets them automatically identify ranks, battle standards, great captains, etc.

"proficiency in fighting style and specialised ability in fighting styles are two different levels?" Yes, they are two different levels. There are fighting style proficiencies that you get as part of your combat proficiencies. You then expend class proficiencies to specialize further. For a bonus to wrestling you'd take Combat Trickery (wrestling) - it's very effective. For a bonus to melee damage, there's Unarmed Combat.

Apologies for the removed posts… some confusion on my part in v116. That said, there are 5 fighting styles. 3 optional. Then classes gain access to one or more of those optional. Assuming you have proficiency do you automatically gain the additional benefits of the fighting style? Ie. +1 init for single handed and +1 to hit for missile? So a thief is automatically +1 to hit with a bow? Or am I missing something here and proficiency in fighting style and specialised ability in fighting styles are two different levels? Might I also suggest another? Unarmed fighting style with a bonus to grappling/wrestling and maybe a +1 damage for unarmed blows? An aspect of medieval combat in plate harness was wresting and tripping opponents, and boxing/wrestling was also popular.

Yes, that is a major new change. Also it's Will, not Wisdom now.

Re reading. Am I right in Wisdom affects ALL saving throws?
