Over the past few weeks I've been learning animation in Blender. I haven't had a lot to show because it's such a time-consuming process and there's so much to learn. But this is something I completed today and I thought some folks might be interested in seeing it, if only to see some progress.
I had a few goals for this. I wanted to try lip syncing, and to do it with an abstract face where I didn't have to worry about texturing or details. Originally I was just going to do something generic, but realized that Hexadecimal from Reboot fit the bill pretty well. Easy to model, no textures needed and I could just take a clip from the show. Perfect!
I realize it's not the most complex thing, or even very good. But there was sooo much time put into this on the back end. Without going into too much detail, I started over from scratch several times and I think I made every possible mistake you can make while trying to get this finished. It was a bit of an excruciating learning process.
But encouragingly, once I got everything set up and working, the actual animation was pretty straightforward. So I'll definitely continue to practice, and maybe can even move on to furry characters at some point!
