Sprite art preview: Sadie Isaacs

Sometime in the not too distant future of MA (Not v0.20), we'll be meeting Sadie! Without spoiling anything major, we'll be seeing her within Bridget's route mainly.

Sadie has been mentioned long before in the game versions before v0.14, but only for a very brief mention. If you have played those older versions, you might recall there being a gaming tournament that took place during the festival. It's easy to miss, but the name drop of Sadie pops up as she's the one announcing and guiding the tournament along it's way. Outside of that, we never seen any visual of how she would look or really any idea for how her character would act fully.

Sadie acts as a supporting character for Bridget, as she's the gaming club leader and so we'll expect to see her around during club events. Sadie seems to know a bit about Bridget and might be willing to supply some information regarding her if you can handle Sadie's internet culture leaking into her daily conversations. :P

Below is a little bio and details for her to help go along with her preview images above, plus her expressions. (Notice the backside of her diaper? It had to be done for Sadie.)

Info: Sadie's sort of a shut-in. While she still interacts with others in her club, she tends to focus her time on gaming and shitposting online. She comes off as a bit annoying or socially awkward, because of how she tries to spout memes and other internet lingo into conversation often without being aware of how people normally talk with one another.

~Design log~

Her visual design took some thought on where to really take her. Originally I knew I wanted Sadie to be seen as a more geeky girl, outcast feeling type of character that doesn't quite fit within the norm around her. I wanted to make sure not to have gaming be the thing that defines or makes her who she is, so along the way while trying to figure out exactly what I wanted to do for her character. I took notice that there's all sorts of ways I could play her character off as.

Somehow this lead to the idea of gaming discussion forums online and there's plenty of corners on the internet that talk about gaming, but I wanted to figure out what would best suit her personality. This would take me to researching or rather... Lurking around 4chan's /v/ board and quickly finding that this would be home to Sadie's inspiration moving forward.

There's something unique that really makes discussion stand out over there, because well.. In my time of researching. The threads can vary greatly in quality, many times leading to shitposting or derailing the original post. That's also considering there isn't completely off-topic threads posted without getting deleted, etc.

Anyways! The point is, that the more I looked around and searched into the history around /v/ mainly. It seems like a pretty fitting inspiration for Sadie's online presence. I'm sure there will be other little things that bleed into her inspiration from the website as a whole, but the main thing to keep in mind being that she seems to enjoy shitposting, memes and being a bit random. So hopefully once we get to see our first impression of her in-game, it'll feel pretty fun even if you're not fond or aware of the inspiration for her.

(Main worry is that when Sadie mentions or tries pulling off any meme related stuff. That I'm aware of how quickly or stale memes can get, so when introducing such things. I'll be trying to make sure they're mixed into the MA world setting, so they'll feel more lasting and yet still clear what the origin is from.)

With her design and information above, I wanted to piece together and make sure she felt a bit more like a shut-in, a bit more unkempt. Which I'd like to think Lisa did a great job tackling this for her, some of her expressions kind of give me the vibe of someone who has a "meh" resting face or has been glued to their computer screen often.

Her choice in clothing I think goes without saying that it should fit well for her, of course I know that maybe for someone a bit more shut-in. They might not bother as much with their looks, maybe wearing more baggy clothing or less, etc. (Think instead of going through the effort of putting jeans on, rolling out of bed in panties or pajamas would suit her better.) But I wanted to give her casual wear a little effort beyond that, just in those cases where she does force herself out of the shitposting cave. :P

Of course one thing that was important with her diaper design was to include a reaction image on her backside, one that'd suit her and also give a light idea with how something like that can be added, without feeling like it'd completely be outdated a few years from now.

~Expression design~

Her expressions were pretty interesting to put together, I wanted to give the impression that a good part of the time. That she's got that tired, meh look going on and maybe a bit low energy. But on the flip side, she can have her spouts of messing with people, etc.

I think for the most part her expressions should be final, but I'll probably do a double check when we're closer to putting her in the engine. I already had a few extra mouth pieces made up for her to pull off some more smug looks, so hopefully what we see here looks pretty good. :P
