Behind the scenes: Day 11 Section 1

Early preview of the writing for section 1.

This section focuses on Nova along with Allie/Rosa.

It all begins with Brandon deciding to introduce Joey/Nathan to Nova, who he keeps her club a secret from them in order to get a reaction out of them later. They get to the gym and notice a group of cheerleaders, instantly thinking Nova is part of that club and getting ahead of themselves. Their sly smiles fade, as Brandon points in the other direction for the gym, showing them the girls in kickboxing.

After a little bit of fun dialogue between the boys, they head over with Joey a bit nervous that he'll get beat up by them. They are introduced to Nova, but it doesn't take very long before Allie comes over from putting equipment away to try scaring them off. She shows off a few swift kicks and it causes Joey to split out of there quickly, Rosa tries to get Allie back to her tasks. We can see that Nova isn't too excited from her actions, as she's sorry towards the boys about them causing Joey to run off.

Nathan mentions that he'll go track him down to make sure he's all good, letting Brandon hang out with the girls. He mentions it as returning the favor for babysitting Zoey for him the other day and he rushes off. Brandon and Nova chat for a little bit, before the other two girls mention their tasks are finished and was wondering if Brandon would be tagging along with them at the track field for a jog before classes begin.

He accepts, as long as it's a light jog and nothing serious. On the way out of the gym, he notices Juliet must be getting her last cheerleading test done for performance and he becomes a bit worried. Nova questions if anything's wrong, which they have some dialogue here about it and move on.

At the track field, the two girls are finished stretching and make a comment on why they're late. (unlocked dialogue based on previous choices) After a moment, they head off ahead of them. Nova suggests the two have a friendly race and offers a interesting bet for the winner, Brandon accepts the challenge and they begin their race. (choices for how to win the race show up)

After the race results, there's a little bit more to the section before the two girls head off ahead again. Leaving Nova and Brandon alone, a moment here changes based on (previous choices) to see different outcomes. Then the section comes to an end shortly after.

-Writers notes-

-This section is actually a little bit of a throw back to update 0.06 (not the reboot demo, before reboot). It was the last update for the old version of the game starting to show us the 2nd "free day" aka was kind of a open select map/events to help boost affection, etc. There was I think only Nova and Miki events done that was seen, one of the events was a race with Nova and I felt like that could pop up here very nicely.

-This section ended up hitting around 3500 word count, while that's good. It's also something I wish to be careful about for many different reasons. >.<

-I feel like by this point with Nova, players should have a very good hint or know what her secret kink/fetish is. There's been a nice balance with her sections, where we get nice character building with fun slice of life moments and a good mix of sections that offer a little more that feels fitting for her.

-Unrelated to this section exactly, but I am very proud with how Nova as a character has turned out. For anyone who is new to the series, before the visual novel there was a very (in my opinion) bad comic using 3d models for the characters and I really don't consider it canon to the game. But Nova was a new character added, along with Zoey exclusively for the visual novel, some characters have had changes to visuals or personality with time from their early concept history. But I'll be honest, I wasn't too sure how great Nova would turn out and luckily she's been going strong! ^^

-Ideally this section would've had Joey/Nathan stick around longer, but I feel like the more characters introduced in a given scene. The harder it is to really get a good feel for whats going on. Not saying there won't be sections with 4+ characters in the future, just that it's not a priority unless it's fitting and won't make things suffer for it. :P
